PATA PATA

MIRIAM MAKEBA
SONGWRITERS: JERRY RAGOVOY & MIRIAM MAKEBA
COUNTRY: SOUTH AFRICA
HOW: Live 1967
ALBUM: PATA PATA
LABEL: REPRISE RECORDS
GENRE: WORLD MUSIC
YEAR: 1967

Zenzile Miriam Makeba(4 March 1932– 9 November 2008), nicknamed Mama Africa, was a South African singer, songwriter, actress, and civil rights activist. Associated with musical genres including Afropop, jazz, and world music, she was an advocate against apartheid and white-minority government in South Africa.
Born in Johannesburg to Swazi and Xhosa parents, Makeba was forced to find employment as a child after the death of her father. She had a brief and allegedly abusive first marriage at the age of 17, gave birth to her only child in 1950, and survived breast cancer. Her vocal talent had been recognized when she was a child, and she began singing professionally in the 1950s, with the Cuban Brothers, the Manhattan Brothers, and an all-woman group, the Skylarks, performing a mixture of jazz, traditional African melodies, and Western popular music. In 1959, Makeba had a brief role in the anti-apartheid film Come Back, Africa, which brought her international attention, and led to her performing in Venice, London, and New York City. In London, she met the American singer Harry Belafonte, who became a mentor and colleague. She moved to New York City, where she became immediately popular, and recorded her first solo album in 1960. Her attempt to return to South Africa that year for her mother's funeral was prevented by the country's government.
Makeba's career flourished in the United States, and she released several albums and songs, her most popular being "Pata Pata" (1967). Along with Belafonte she received a Grammy Award for her 1965 album An Evening with Belafonte/Makeba. She testified against the South African government at the United Nations and became involved in the civil rights movement. She married Stokely Carmichael, a leader of the Black Panther Party, in 1968. As a result, she lost support among white Americans. Her visa was revoked by the US government when she was traveling abroad, forcing her and Carmichael to relocate to Guinea. She continued to perform, mostly in African countries, including at several independence celebrations. She began to write and perform music more explicitly critical of apartheid; the 1977 song "Soweto Blues", written by her former husband Hugh Masekela, was about the Soweto uprising. After apartheid was dismantled in 1990, Makeba returned to South Africa. She continued recording and performing, including a 1991 album with Nina Simone and Dizzy Gillespie, and appeared in the 1992 film Sarafina!. She was named a UN goodwill ambassador in 1999, and campaigned for humanitarian causes. She died of a heart attack during a 2008 concert in Italy.
Makeba was among the first African musicians to receive worldwide recognition. She brought African music to a Western audience, and popularized the world music and Afropop genres. She also made popular several songs critical of apartheid, and became a symbol of opposition to the system, particularly after her right to return was revoked. Upon her death, former South African President Nelson Mandela said that "her music inspired a powerful sense of hope in all of us."

Roland Kent LaVoie(born July 31, 1943), better known by his stage name Lobo, (which is a Spanish word for wolf), is an American singer-songwriter who was successful in the early 1970s, scoring several U.S. Top 10 hits including "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo", "I'd Love You to Want Me", and "Don't Expect Me to Be Your Friend". Tonight you're mine, completely
You give your soul so sweetly
Tonight the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow

Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure
Can I believe the magic in your sighs
And will you still love me tomorrow

Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night meets the morning sun

I'd like to know if your love
Is a love I can be sure of
So tell me now and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow.

It was way past midnight
And she still couldn't fall asleep
This night the dream was leaving
She tried so hard to keep
And with the new day's dawning
She felt it drifted away
Not only for a cruise, not only for a day

Too long ago, too long apart she couldn't wait another day for
The captain of her heart

Too long ago, too long apart she couldn't wait another day for
The captain of her heart

Too long ago, too long apart she couldn't wait another day for
The captain of her heart
As the day came up, she made a stop she stopped waiting another day for
The captain of her heart
The captain of her heart
The captain of her heart, heart, heart, heart, heart ...

Jordan Hill (born Whitney Jordan Hill) is an American singer-songwriter.
Hill was originally signed by producer David Foster to his own label 143 Records, a division of Warner Music Group. Her first song, "Remember Me This Way", which was produced by Foster, became the film Casper's theme song and was released as a single.
Jordan Hill's self-titled debut album was released on May 21, 1996, and was produced by David Foster, Greg Charley, Rhett Lawrence, Jeff Pescetto, SoulShock & Karlin and Mario Winans. Hill covered many songs, such as Cheryl Lynn's "Got to Be Real", Oleta Adams' "I Just Had to Hear Your Voice", and Lisa Stansfield's "Make It Right". "For the Love of You", produced by Foster and Winans, was released as the first single; it became a hit both on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B/Hip-Hop charts. However, the remix version by Tony Moran became her biggest hit, going Top 10 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.
The second single, released only in Europe, was "How Many Times" (which was later covered by Aretha Franklin) and the third single, also a Europe exclusive, was "Too Much Heaven", a cover of the Bee Gees song and featured Barry Gibb singing backup. Due to a lack of support and promotion, she left the label.
Hill has worked with some notable artists, such as the Bee Gees and Jim Brickman, whose 1999 Top 10 adult contemporary hit "Destiny" featured Hill on vocals, along with Billy Porter.
As of 2014, Hill was writing and recording her second album, which was initially scheduled for release in 2015.
Billy Porter (born September 21, 1969) is an American actor and singer. He attended Taylor Allderdice, graduated from Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama, and achieved fame performing on Broadway before starting a solo career as a singer and actor.
Porter won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role as Lola in Kinky Boots at the 67th Tony Awards. He credits the part for "cracking open" his feminine side to confront toxic masculinity. For the role, Porter also won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical and Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical. In 2014 Porter won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album for Kinky Boots. He currently stars in the television series Pose for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and won the 2019 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, becoming the first openly gay black man to be nominated and win in any lead acting category at the Primetime Emmys.
Porter is included in Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2020.
"Destiny" is a song co-written and performed by American recording artist Jim Brickman, featuring singer Jordan Hill and Billy Porter. It was released in 1999 on Windham Hill Records and BMG as the second single and as well as the thirteenth track from his fifth studio album of the same name. It is a pop song that was written by Dane Deviller, Sean Hosein and Jim Brickman and produced by the latter and by David Pringle.
What if I never knew
What if I never found you
I'd never have this feeling in my heart
How did this come to be
I don't know how you found me
But from the moment I saw you
Deep inside my heart I knew

Baby you're my destiny
You and I were meant to be
With all my heart and soul
I give my love to have and hold
And as far as I can see
You were always meant to be
My destiny

I wanted someone like you
Someone that I could hold on to
And give my love until the end of time
But forever was just a word
Something I'd only heard about
But now you're always there for me
When you say forever I believe

Baby you're my destiny
You and I were meant to be
With all my heart and soul
I give my love to have and hold
And as far as I can see
You were always meant to be
My destiny

Maybe all we need
Is just a little faith
'Cause baby I believe
That love will find the way
Hey yeah

Baby you're my destiny
You and I were meant to be
With all my heart and soul
I give my love to have and hold
And as I far as I can see
From now until eternity
You were always meant to be
My destiny
You're my destiny
You're my.

Your footsteps, my dear
Thought I know you’re far away
Hey, hey, hey

Tiptoe, alone, till they come into my heart
Those footsteps, that say
We will never stay apart
Footsteps that haunt me and seems to tell me
That they’ll be my guide, they’ll be my guide

They, will lead, me to, your side
Those little footsteps, I hear
Every mornin’ noon and night
Your footsteps, my dear
Even though you’re out of sight

PEQUEÑA SERENATA DIURNA

SILVIO RODRIGUEZ
COMPOSITOR: SILVIO RODRIGUEZ
PAIS: CUBA

Mon amour, puisque tu m'aimes

Mon amour, crois-tu qu'on s'aime?

Dans le ciel, plus de problèmes
Dieu réunit ceux qui s'aiment!

ENYA
SONGWRITER: ROMA RYAN
COUNTRY: IRELAND
ALBUM: A DAY WITHOUT RAIN
LABEL: WEA
GENRE: NEW AGE
YEAR: 2000

Eithne Pádraigín Ní Bhraonáin (anglicised as Enya Patricia Brennan, /ˈɛnjə/; born 17 May 1961), known professionally as Enya, is an Irish singer, songwriter, record producer and musician. Born into a musical family and raised in the Irish-speaking area of Gweedore in County Donegal, Enya began her music career when she joined her family's Celtic folk band Clannad in 1980 on keyboards and backing vocals. She left in 1982 with their manager and producer Nicky Ryan to pursue a solo career, with Ryan's wife Roma Ryan as her lyricist. Enya developed her sound over the following four years with multitracked vocals and keyboards with elements of new age, Celtic, classical, church, and folk music. She has sung in ten languages.
Enya's first projects as a solo artist included soundtrack work for The Frog Prince (1984) and the 1987 BBC documentary series The Celts, which was released as her debut album, Enya (1987). She signed with Warner Music UK, which granted her artistic freedom and minimal interference from the label. The commercial and critical success of Watermark (1988) propelled her to worldwide fame, helped by the international top-10 hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by the multi-million-selling albums Shepherd Moons (1991), The Memory of Trees (1995) and A Day Without Rain (2000). Sales of the latter and its lead single, "Only Time", surged in the United States following its use in the media coverage of the September 11 attacks. Following Amarantine (2005) and And Winter Came... (2008), Enya took an extended break from music; she returned in 2012 and released Dark Sky Island (2015).
She is Ireland's best-selling solo artist and second-best-selling artist behind U2, with a discography that has sold 26.5 million certified albums in the United States and an estimated 75 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. A Day Without Rain (2000) remains the best-selling new-age album, with an estimated 16 million copies sold worldwide. Enya has won awards including seven World Music Awards, four Grammy Awards for Best New Age Album, and an Ivor Novello Award. She was nominated for na Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for "May It Be", written for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001).
"Only Time" is a song by Irish singer, songwriter and musician Enya, released on 13 November 2000 as the lead single to her fifth studio album, A Day Without Rain (2000). The song reached number one in Canada, Germany, Poland and Switzerland, number two in Austria, and became Enya's only top-ten single as a solo artist in the United States, peaking at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100.

Who can say where the road goes?
Where the day flows?
Only time

And who can say if your love grows
As your heart chose?
Only time

Who can say why your heart sighs
As your love flies?
Only time

And who can say why your heart cries
When your love lies?
Only time

Who can say when the roads meet
That love might be
In your heart?

And who can say when the day sleeps
If the night keeps all your heart?
Night keeps all your heart

Who can say if your love grows
As your heart chose?
Only time

And who can say where the road goes?
Where the day flows?
Only time

Who knows?
Only time

Who knows?
Only time.
