"Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet", also known as "A Time for Us", is an instrumental arranged by Henry Mancini (from Nino Rota's music written for Franco Zeffirelli's film of Romeo and Juliet, starring Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey). It was a number-one pop hit in the United States during the year 1969. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart on June 28, 1969, and remained there for two weeks; it was also his only Top Ten single on that chart.
Rearranged by Mancini, the song started competing with rock and roll songs from The Beatles and the Rolling Stones on an Orlando, Florida radio station and spread from there. It faced stiff opposition from some radio stations for being too soft. Those stations had to change their mind when the song became number one, ending the five-week run of Get Back by the Beatles as the top song.
This release also topped the U.S. easy listening chart for eight weeks where it was Mancini's sole number one on the chart.
A time for us some day there'll be
When chains are torn by courage born of a love that's free
A time when dreams so long denied and flourish
As we unveil the love we now must hide

A time for us at last to see
A life worthwhile for you and me

And with our love through tears and thorns
We will endure as we pass surely through every storm

A time for us someday there'll be
A new world, a world of shining hope for you and me

A time for us some day there'll be
A new world, a world of shining hope for you and me.

Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossin' you in style someday
Oh, dream maker, you heartbreaker
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way

Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end
Waitin' 'round the bend
My huckleberry friend
Moon River, and me

Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossin' you in style someday
Oh, dream maker, you heartbreaker
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way

Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end
Waitin' 'round the bend
My huckleberry friend
Moon River, and me.

Iske rauta, synny rauta,
Synny kuumassa tulessa.
Iske rauta, nouse maasta,
Synny povissa luonnotarten.

Iske rauta, tapporauta,
Iskemällä sinä synnyt.
Iske rauta, musta rauta,
Kuuma tervan polttorauta.

Iske, iske, iske, iske….
Iske!

Kolme rautaa iskekäähän,
Teidät iski ilmarinen.
Iskeäkseen nosti maasta
Jäljistä petojen jalkain.

Iske rauta, synny rauta,
Muutu kuumassa tulessa.
Vanno rauta, tapporauta,
Älä koskaan omia iske.

Iske rauta, vaskirauta,
Iskuista teräsi saanet.
Iske rauta niin punainen,
Kuuman polton poikkirauta.

Iske rauta kauniin kirkas,
Iskuista sinäkin synnyt.
Iske rauta valkehinen,
Teroitettu tapporauta.

Iskuista sinäkin synnyt,
Iske, iske,
Iskuista sinäkin synnyt,
Iske, iske, iske!

Kolme rautaa iskekäähän,
Teidät iski ilmarinen.
Iskeäkseen nosti maasta
Jäljistä petojen jalkain.

Iske rauta, synny rauta,
Muutu kuumassa tulessa.
Vanno rauta, tapporauta,
Älä koskaan omia iske.

When we played our charade
We were like children posing
Playing at games, acting out names
Guessing the parts we played

Oh what a hit we made
We came on next to closing
Best on the bill, lovers until
Love left the masquerade

Fate seemed to pull the strings
I turned and you were gone
While from the darkened wings
The music box played on

Sad little serenade
Song of my heart's composing
I hear it still, I always will
Best on the bill, charade.
