Mickey & Sylvia was an American R&B duo, composed of Mickey Baker and Sylvia Vanderpool, who later became Sylvia Robinson. They were the first big seller for Groove Records.
Mickey was a music instructor and Sylvia one of his pupils. Baker was inspired to form the group by the success of Les Paul & Mary Ford. They had a Top 20 hit with "Love Is Strange" in 1956, which sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc by the RIAA. The duo eventually bought their own nightclub, established a publishing company, and formed their own record label. Although Mickey & Sylvia disbanded by the end of the 1950s, they continued to record together on an infrequent basis until 1965, when Mickey quit the music industry in the United States. A second studio recording of "Love Is Strange" in 1962 featured now-legendary drummer Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, who was 18, on his first paid session gig. "Love Is Strange" would be featured (in its 1956 version) in movies like Dirty Dancing, Badlands and Casino, and would be covered many times.

"Hey There" is a show tune from the musical play The Pajama Game, written by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. It was published in 1954. It was introduced by John Raitt in the original production. It was subsequently recorded by a number of artists. The recording by Rosemary Clooney reached #1 on Billboard's chart in 1954. Another version was also recorded about the same time by Sammy Davis, Jr., reaching #16 on Billboard's retail chart. The song (counting all recorded versions) also reached #1 on the Cash Box chart in 1954.

LENY EVERSONG (Hilda Campos Soares da Silva) 1/9/1920, Santos, SP - 29/4/1984, São Paulo, SP.
Começou sua carreira aos 12 anos, quando se apresentou no programa Hora Infantil, da Rádio Clube de Santos, SP. Logo foi chamada para um teste, que lhe valeu um contrato e o espaço para atuar no programa noturno daquela emissora. Seu forte, desde então, eram as interpretações para os foxes estrangeiros. Recebeu então o pseudônimo de "Hildinha, a Princesa do Fox". Transferiu-se em 1935 para a Rádio Atlântica, também em Santos. Nessa ocasião, adotou seu famoso nome artístico, sugerido pelo produtor Carlos Baccarat e passou a cantar apenas em inglês. Decorava as letras com sua pronúncia perfeita, mesmo não falando o idioma. Em 1936, foi para o Rio de Janeiro, onde fez uma temporada de três meses na Rádio Tupi. Atuou em shows no Copacabana Palace Hotel e no Cassino da Urca. Em 1937, assinou contrato com a boate Night and Day, casa noturna inaugurada no último andar do Edifício Martinelli, em São Paulo. Fez também temporadas no Cassino Guarujá, SP. Participou de inúmeros programas de rádio em São Paulo, principalmente nas Rádios Bandeirantes e Cultura. Em 1940, atuou na Rádio Educadora Paulista. Gravou seu primeiro disco em 1942, interpretando os estribilhos do fox "Tropical magic", "The nango" e "When I love, I love!" e a rumba "Week-end in Havana", com a Orquestra Colúmbia dirigida pelo maestro Totó, da qual era crooner. Um ano depois, gravou o fox "Tangerine" e o samba "Carioquinha",entre outras músicas com a mesma orquestra. No mesmo ano, gravou seu primeiro disco solo, interpretando o fox-canção "Besame mucho", de Velasquez e o bolero "Por mi culpa", de Cesar Siqueira. Em 1944 gravou seu segundo disco solo, interpretando o fox-trot "Stormy weather" e o fox "I can't give you anything but love". Em 1945, transferindo-se da Rádio Tupi, passou por duas rádios paulistas: a Excelsior e depois a Nacional. Em 1948, fez temporada na Argentina, apresentando-se como uma cantora americana. Nas décadas de 1940 e 1950, a peruana Yma Sumac fazia enorme sucesso, por causa de seu registro vocal extraordinariamente agudo. Segundo Jairo Severiano, "em matéria de extravagância o Brasil tinha uma representante mais interessante que a Yma, pois ela não cantava com tanta expressão ou em tantas línguas quanto a Leny, que cantou em todas que se possa imaginar".
