a popular song with lyrics by Sammy Cahn and music by Nicholas Brodzsky.
Published in 1950, it was written for Mario Lanza who sang it with Kathryn
Grayson in the 1950 movie The Toast of New Orleans. Lanza's 1950 recording of
the song (released by RCA Victor Records as catalog number 10-1561) was his
first million-seller, eventually selling over two million copies.It was on the Billboard charts for 34 weeks, going all the way to
number one. It was the theme song for Lanza's radio program, The Mario Lanza
Show (1951–52). It
eventually became so firmly linked to him that he wearied of it and resorted to
spoofing it in private.

Thriller is the sixth studio
album by American singer Michael Jackson, released on November 30, 1982, in the
United States by Epic Records and internationally by CBS Records. The follow-up
to Jackson's successful previous studio album, Off the Wall, it explores genres
similar to those of its predecessor, including pop, post-disco, rock and funk.
Recording sessions for the album took place from April to November 1982 at Westlake
Recording Studios in Los Angeles, with a production budget of $750,000. Quincy
Jones produced the album, and Jackson wrote four of its nine songs.
In just over a year, Thriller
became—and currently remains—the world's best-selling album, with estimated
sales of 66 million copies. Representatives for Sony and Jackson's estate say
that Thriller has sold 105 million copies globally. It is the best-selling
album in the United States and the first album to be certified 33×
multi-platinum, having shipped 33 million album-equivalent units. The album won
a record-breaking eight Grammy Awards in 1984, including Album of the Year. Seven
singles were released from the album—"The Girl Is Mine", "Billie
Jean", "Beat It", "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'",
"Human Nature", "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)", and "Thriller"—all
of which reached the top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Thriller also
enabled Jackson to break down racial barriers in pop music, via his appearances
on MTVand meeting with President Ronald Reagan at the White House. The
album was one of the first to use music videos as successful promotional tools,
and the videos for the songs "Thriller", "Billie Jean", and
"Beat It" all received regular rotation on MTV.

Pretty Woman is a 1990
American romantic comedy film directed by Garry Marshall from a screenplay by J.
F. Lawton. The film stars Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, and features Hector
Elizondo, Ralph Bellamy (in his final performance), Laura San Giacomo and Jason
Alexander in supporting roles. Its story centers on down-on-her-luck Hollywood hooker
Vivian Ward, who is hired by Edward Lewis, a wealthy businessman, to be his
escort for several business and social functions, and their developing
relationship over the course of her week-long stay with him.
Originally intended to be
a dark cautionary tale about class and sex work in Los Angeles, the film was
reconceived as a romantic comedy with a large budget. It was widely successful
at the box office and became one of the highest-grossing films of 1990. The
film saw the highest number of ticket sales in the U.S. ever for a romantic
comedy, with Box Office Mojo listing it as the #1 romantic comedy by the
highest estimated domestic tickets sold at 42,176,400, slightly ahead of My Big
Fat Greek Wedding (2002) at 41,419,500 tickets. The film received positive
reviews, with Roberts's performance being praised, for which she received a Golden
Globe Award and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. In
addition, screenwriter J. F. Lawton was nominated for a Writers Guild Award and
a BAFTA Award.
