CRAZY FOR YOU
MADONNA
SONGWRITERS: JOHN BETTIS; JON LIND & MIKE STOLLER
COUNTRY: U. S. A.
ALBUM: VISION QUEST
LABEL: GEFFEN RECORDS
GENRE: POP
YEAR: 1985

"Crazy for You" is a song by American Singer Madonna, written by John Bettis and Jon Lind, from the soundtrack album to the film Vision Quest (1985). It was released on March 2, 1985 by Geffen Records as the first single from the soundtrack. The song appears remixed on the greatest hits compilation The Immaculate Collection (1990) and was re-released on February 24, 1991 by Sire Records to promote the album. The song was also included on the ballads compilation Something to Remember (1995) and the greatest hits compilation Celebration (2009). Producers Jon Peters and Peter Guber, along with music director Phil Ramone, decided to use Madonna after listening to her previous recordings, employing Bettis and Lind to write the song. After reading the script of the film, Bettis and Lind wrote the song about the situation in which the lead characters meet at a nightclub. Initial recording sessions did not impress Bettis and Lind, and they felt that "Crazy for You" would be dropped from the soundtrack. However, a new version was recorded to their liking.
John "Jellybean" Benitez was the producer for the song, and it was a challenge for him, as previously he was associated with recording dance-pop songs only. Initially Warner Bros. Records did not want the song to be released as a single, since they believed that it would take away the attention from Madonna's second studio album Like a Virgin (1984). In the end, Peters and Guber convinced Warner officials to greenlight its release. "Crazy for You" ushered a new musical direction for Madonna, as she had not previously released a ballad as a single. The track features instrumentation from snare drums, harp, bass synthesizer and electric guitar. Lyrically, the song speaks of sexual desire between two lovers and consists of innuendos.
Swaying room as the music starts
Strangers making the most of the dark
Two by two their bodies become one

I see you through the smokey air
Can't you feel the weight of my stare
You're so close but still a world away
What I'm dying to say, is that

I'm crazy for you
Touch me once and you'll know it's true
I never wanted anyone like this
It's all brand new
You'll feel it in my kiss
I'm crazy for you
Crazy for you

Trying hard to control my heart
I walk over to where you are
Eye to eye we need no words at all

Slowly now we begin to move
Every breath I'm deeper into you
Soon we two are standing still in time
If you read my mind, you'll see

I'm crazy for you
Touch me once and you'll know it's true
I never wanted anyone like this
It's all brand new
You'll feel it in my kiss
You'll feel it in my kiss

Because I'm crazy for you
Touch me once and you'll know it's true
I never wanted anyone like this
It's all brand new
You'll feel it in my kiss
I'm crazy for you
Crazy for you
Crazy for you
Crazy for you

It's all brand new
I'm crazy for you
And you know it's true
I'm crazy, crazy for you

It's all brand new
I'm crazy for you
And you know it's true
Yeah I'm crazy for you
Crazy for you baby
I'm crazy for you
I'm crazy for you.

All you folks back home
I'll never tell you this
You're not supposed to know
Where your daughter is
There are ways of life
You never understood
It's right here
Downtown Hollywood
It's afternoon on Sunset Boulevard
I've got a stolen moment trying hard
To write a kind of Christmas card

But I am burning out again
Tonight there is fever in my veins

Mama, dear
All the love you gave
I guess there's really nothing
Nothing much to save
This place is as steady as I feel myself
There are still some riches
At the Roosevelt
That evening prayer
Those memories
In my little bedroom, mama, on my knees
That's where I am at
Down in Los Angeles

And I am burning out again
And I must rise above the shame
Tonight there is fever in my veins

Just think of the girl I used to be
You were my age once, mama
twenty-three
I can still hear some of the songs you used to play
From that summer of love in '68
Seems it's turned into a winter of hate

And I am burning out again.
MAYBE HE'LL KNOW

Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh

Maybe he'll know well
I'm not so sure
Maybe he'll know well
Maybe he'll be my cure

Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh

Maybe he'll know well
I'm not so sure
Maybe he'll know why
Maybe, maybe he'll be, oh oh

Something calls to me,
I know
I hear an echo start to pound
Like a drum
Chanting a song, anchor me
But don't take too long, no no
I got this anxious feeling
I got this ache engraved
In me like stone
Don't take too long
Say you'll never leave me
Say you'll never go
No no no no

Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Maybe he'll know well
I'm not so sure
Maybe he'll know why
Maybe he'll be
oh, oh

Something calls to me,
I know
I hear an echo start to pound
Like a drum
Chanting a song, anchor me
But don't take too long, no no
I got this anxious feeling
I got this ache engraved
In me like stone
Don't take too long
Say you'll never leave me
Say you'll never go

Don't take too long
I got this anxious feeling
I got this ache engraved
In me like stone
Don't take too long
Say you'll never leave me
Say you'll never go

oh, oh...

It's time to breathe

Good morning Mr Lovebones, how you doing today?
Well I’m just like Patsy, I got my sparkle back again
I’ve been talking less, thinking more, feel like I should hold you inside
No more watching from the sidelines, I ain’t along for the ride, no sir
Well the wind might change while I'm talking to you
I feel a little faint getting too much truth
And nothing that I need to do
Take it nice and slow

Nice and slow
Nice and slow
Nice and slow (take it take it)
‘Nice and slow

Morning Mr Darkness, stop all this running away
Will you be walking in a straight line, now you know crime doesn’t pay
Your luck has changed, I got sweeter for you
I used to be a dreamer with my heart full of moon
Be careful not to speak too soon
Take it nice and slow

Nice and slow (take it take it)
Nice and slow
Nice and slow (take it take it)
Nice and slow

Nice and slow

And l walk down the street with a smile on my face and my heart on my sleeve
Nice and slow
And if you really love me then show it don’t say it
It’s the only way to go
Nice and slow
See I learnt the hard way love is mundane
Love is just nice & slow.
