She's taken my time
Convince me she's fine
But when she leaves I'm not so sure
It's always the same
She's playing her game
And when she goes I feel to blame
Why won't she say she needs me?
I know she's not as strong as she seems

Why don't I see her cry for help?
Why don't I feel her cry for help?
Why don't I hear her cry for help?

I wandered around
The streets of this town
Trying to find sense of it all
The rain on my face
It covers the trace
Of all the tears I'd had to waste
Why must we hide emotions?
Why must we never break down and cry?

All that I need is to cry for help
Somebody please hear me cry for help
All I can do is cry for help

No need to feel ashamed
Release the pain cry for help

Cry for help is all I need
All I need is a cry for help
Cry for help is all I need
All I need is a cry for help

Why must we hide emotions?
Why can't we ever break down and cry?
All that I need is to cry for help
I will be there when you cry for help
Why don't I hear her cry for help?

All that I need is to cry for help
Somebody please hear me cry for help
All I can do is cry for help.

All that I need is to cry for help
I will be there when you cry for help
Is it so hard to cry for help?

(Cry for help is all I need) no need to feel ashamed
(All I need is a cry for help) come on and release the pain
(Cry for help is all I need) put your trust in me
(All I need is a cry for help) my love is gonna set you free.

So you've lost your will to live
Seems you're down to your last friend
And the weight of the world keeps trying to pull you in

Chorus:
Don't give up. Don't give in. Give it all to Him.
'Cause He cares so much more than you know
When it seems who you really want to be
Is someone you'll never become
Just look how far you've come

Though you failed at plans you've made
Don't forget all the steps you've made
He has brought you this far
He can take you the rest of the way

Chorus:
Don't give up. Don't give in. Give it all to Him.
'Cause He cares so much more than you know
When it seems who you really want to be
Is someone you'll never become
Just look how far you've come

I know it's not always easy
(How far you've come)
But don't you throw it all away
(How far you've come)
I know that He will take care of you everyday

Chorus:
Don't give up. Don't give in. Give it all to Him.
'Cause He cares so much more than you know
When it seems who you really want to be
Is someone you'll never become
Just look how far you've come.

It also appears in the musical about Allen's life, The Boy from Oz. VH1 placed the song at No. 11 on its "40 Most Softsational Soft-Rock Songs" list. The song won Newton-John both the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 17th Grammy Awards. Andy Williams released a version in 1974 on his album, You Lay So Easy on My Mind.
A snippet of the song plays over Chief Brody's radio in the second shark attack in Jaws, moments before Alex Kitner and Pippet the dog disappear beneath the waves.
Maybe I hang around here
A little more than I should
We both know I got somewhere else to go
But I got something to tell you
That I never thought I would
But I believe you really ought to know

I love you
I honestly love you

You don't have to answer
I see it in your eyes
Maybe it was better left unsaid
This is pure and simple
And you should realize
That it's coming from my heart and not my head

I love you
I honestly love you

I'm not trying to make you feel uncomfortable
I'm not trying to make you anything at all
But this feeling doesn't come along everyday
And you shouldn't blow the chance
When you've got the chance to say

I love you
I honestly love you

If we both were born
In another place and time
This moment might be ending in a kiss
But there you are with yours
And here I am with mine
So I guess we'll just be leaving it at this

I love you
I honestly love you
I honestly love you.

Talk to me
Want my love
Talk to me
But not that stuff

You ain't get enough using my love
You call for me
Again I'll see

In the heat of the night
You lose control and sell your soul
I lose control in the heat of the night
It's much too late to leave the trade
But I can't stand it anymore
You lose your heart and sell your soul
I lose control in the heat of the night
In the heat of the night

Talk to me
Want my love
Talk to me
But not that stuff

Who's on my side losing my pride?
You call for me
Again I'll see

In the heat of the night
You lose control and sell your soul
I lose control in the heat of the night
It's much too late to leave the trade
But I can't stand it anymore
You lose your heart and sell your soul
I lose control in the heat of the night
In the heat of the night

In the heat of the night
You lose control and sell your soul
I lose control in the heat of the night
It's much too late to leave the trade
But I can't stand it anymore
You lose your heart and sell your soul
I lose control in the heat of the night
In the heat of the night

You lose control and sell your soul
It's much too late to leave the trade.
