ALBUM: THAT BAD EARTHA
LABEL: RCA VICTOR
GENRE: JAZZ
YEAR: 1953

That Bad Eartha is a 1954 studio album by American singer Eartha Kitt, her debut 12" vinyl album issued by RCA Victor. The album was recorded in four sessions between March and October 1953 with Henri Rene and His Orchestra. Long-playing records were introduced in 1948 by Columbia with 10" albums as the popular music format and the 12" album the format for classical music. RCA introduced the 45 RPM format shortly afterwards. In May 1953 RCA Victor released the 10" vinyl álbum RCA Victor Presents Eartha Kitt which reached No. 2 on the pop albums chart and featured 8 songs. By the mid-50s, 10” LPs were phased out, replaced by 12” ones for popular as well as classical music, and RCA Victor expanded and re-issued the album with 12 tracks.
RCA released her second album in the 10” popular format and reissued it a year later in the now established 12” format with additional songs. It was also released in a 45 RPM extended play version with two songs on each side of a disk. That Bad Eartha spent 12 weeks on the pop albums chart, peaking at No. 5.
Several singles were issued from this album, "Under the Bridges of Paris" charted in the UK singles chart in 1955 at #7.
Many of the songs recorded for this album, such as "C'est si bon", "Uska Dara" and "I Want to Be Evil" became closely associated with Eartha Kitt and were performed live by her until one of her last concerts at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, shortly before her death in December 2008. The complete album was re-issued on CD in 1994 as part of the Bear Family Records five-CD boxset Eartha – Quake; this included "Santa Baby" and several other tracks from the same recording session not included in this album.
I've posed for pictures with Iv'ry Soap
I've petted stray dogs, and shied clear of dope
(I've petted stray dogs, and I never mope)
My smile is brilliant, my glance is tender
But I'm noted most for my unspoiled gender

I've been made Miss Reingold, though I never touch beer
(I've been named Miss Perseverance year after year)
And I'm the person to whom they say: You're sweet, my dear
The only etchings I've seen have been behind glass
And the closest I've been to a bar, is at ballet class

Prim and proper, the girl who's never been cased
I'm tired of being pure and not chased
Like something that seeks it's level
I wanna go to the devil

I wanna be evil, I wanna spit tacks
I wanna be evil, and cheat at jacks
I wanna be wicked, I wanna tell lies
I wanna be mean, and throw mud pies

I want to wake up in the morning
With that dark brown taste
I want to see some dissipation in my face
I wanna be evil, I wanna be mad
But more that that I wanna be bad

I wanna be evil, and trump an ace
Just to see my partner's face
I wanna be nasty, I wanna be cruel
I wanna be daring, I wanna shoot pool

And in the theatre
I want to change my seat
Just so I can step on
Everybody's feet

I wanna be evil, I wanna hurt flies
I wanna sing songs like the guy who cries
I wanna be horrid, I wanna drink booze
(I want to be horrid, I want to make news)
And whatever I've got I'm eager to lose

I wanna be evil, little evil me
Just as mean and evil as I can be.

 [Chris & Suzi]:
Our love is alive and so we begin
Foolishly layin' our hearts on the table, stumblin' in
Our love is a flame burnin' within
Now and then firelight will catch us, stumblin' in

[Chris]:
Wherever you go, whatever you do
You know these reckless thoughts of mine are followin' you

[Suzi]:
I've fallen for you, whatever you do
'Cause baby you've shown me so many things that I never knew

[Chris & Suzi]:
Whatever it takes, baby, I'll do it for you

[Chris & Suzi]:
Our love is alive and so we begin
Foolishly layin' our hearts on the table, stumblin' in
Our love is a flame burnin' within
Now and then firelight will catch us, stumblin' in

[Chris]:
You were so young, ah, and I was so free

[Suzi]:
I may have been young but baby that's not what I wanted to be

[Chris]:
Well, you were the one

[Suzi]:
Oh, why was it me?

[Chris]:
'Cause baby you've shown me so many things that I'd never seen

[Chris & Suzi]:
Whatever you need, baby, you got it from me

[Chris & Suzi]:
Our love is alive and so we begin
Foolishly layin' our hearts on the table, stumblin' in
Our love is a flame burnin' within
Now and then firelight will catch us, stumblin' in

Stumblin' in, stumblin' in
Foolishly layin' our hearts on the table, stumblin' in
Ahh, stumblin' in, mmm, stumblin' in
Now and then fire light will catch us, stumblin' in

Ahh, stumblin' in, ahh, stumblin' in
Foolishly layin' our hearts on the table, stumblin' in
Ahh, stumblin' in, you were stimblin' in...

Vem cá de qualquer maneira
Balança minha roseira
Me bate de brincadeira
Me chama de traiçoeira
Me tranca na geladeira
Apaga minha fogueira
Promete qualquer besteira
Que eu fico toda faceira
Tortura essa brasileira
Me arranha com a pulseira
Me enforca na trepadeira
Pendura minha chuteira
Menino, mas que zoeira
Cadê meu advogado?

Eu tô que tô!
Eu tô que tô!
Eu tô que tô!
Eu tô que tô!

La luz a la media boca
Besame mucho loca
Não, isso não
Me dá coceira
La luz a la media boca
Besame mucho loca
Não, não, não isso não
Me dá coceira

Vem cá minha compoteira
Balança essa pasmaceira
Me bate com a cabideira
Me chama de lavadeira
Não grita, não dá bandeira
Periga marcar bobeira
Quebrei o pé da cadeira
Cuidado com a cristaleira
Segura, me deu gagueira
Eu juro que é verdadeira
Disfarça e chama a enfermeira
Tá dando uma tremedeira
Mamãe, viva o Zé Pereira
Cadê meu advogado?

Eu tô que tô!
Eu tô que tô!
Eu tô que tô!
Eu tô que tô!

La luz a la media boca
Besame mucho loca
Não, isso não
Me dá coceira
La luz a la media boca
Besame mucho loca
Não, não, não isso não
Me dá coceira

Vem cá minha compoteira
Balança essa pasmaceira
Me bate com a cabideira
Me chama de lavadeira

I HEARD
THE MILLS BROTHERS
SONGWRITER: DON REDMAN
COUNTRY: U.S.A.
ALBUM: EARLY CLASSICS 1931-1934
LABEL: BRUNSWICK
GENRE: JAZZ
YEAR: 2001

The Mills Brothers, sometimes billed the Four Mills Brothers, and originally known as the Four Kings of Harmony, were an American jazz and pop vocal quartet who made more than 2,000 recordings that sold more than 50 million copies and garnered at least three dozen gold records.
The Mills Brothers were the first African-American artists to have their own show on national network radio, on CBS in 1930, and the first to have a #1 hit on the Billboard singles chart, with Paper Doll in 1943. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998.
The Mills Brothers were born into a family of nine in Piqua, Ohio, United States. The band consisted of Donald (lead tenor vocals, April 29, 1915 – November 13, 1999), Herbert (tenor vocals, April 2, 1912 – April 12, 1989), Harry (baritone vocals, August 9, 1913 – June 28, 1982), and John Jr. (guitar, double bass, vocals; October 19, 1910 – January 23, 1936). Their father, John Hutchinson Mills (February 11, 1882 – December 8, 1967), was a barber with his own shop and a barbershop quartet. He was the son of William Hutchinson Mills and Cecilia Simms who lived in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.
As the boys grew older, they began singing in the choir of the Cyrene African Methodist Episcopal Church and in the Park Avenue Baptist Church in Piqua. After lessons at the Spring Street Grammar School, they gathered in front of their father's barbershop or on the corner to perform. They entered an amateur contest at May's Opera House but while on stage Harry realized he had lost his kazoo. He improvised by cupping his hand over his mouth and mimicking the sound of trumpet. The brothers liked the idea and worked it into their act. John, the bass vocalist, would imitate the tuba. Harry, a baritone, imitated the trumpet, Herbert became the second trumpet, and Donald the trombone. John accompanied the four-part harmony on ukulele and then guitar. They practiced imitating orchestras they heard on the radio.
When the town is fast asleep, and it's mid-night in the sky
That's the time the festive chink starts to wink his other eye
Starts to wink his dreamy eye, lazily you'll hear him sigh

Strangers taking in the sights, pig-tails flying here and there
See that broken wall street sport, still thinks he's a millionaire
Still thinks he's a millionaire, pipe dreams banish every care

Chinatown, my Chinatown
Where the lights are low
Hearts that know no other land
Drifting to and fro
Dreamy dreamy Chinatown
Almond eyes of brown
Hearts seems light and life seems bright
In dreamy Chinatown.
