The Cranberries was an Irish rock band formed in Limerick, Ireland, in 1989 by lead singer Niall Quinn, guitarist Noel Hogan, bassist Mike Hogan, and drummer Fergal Lawler. Quinn was replaced as lead singer by Dolores O'Riordan in 1990. The band officially classify themselves as an alternative rock group, but incorporate aspects of indie pop, post-punk, folk rock, and pop rock into their sound.
The Cranberries rose to international fame in the 1990s with their debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, which became a commercial success and achieved five top 20 albums on the Billboard 200 chart: Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? No Need to Argue, To the Faithful Departed, Bury the Hatchet, and Stars: The Best of 1992-2002, as well as having eight top 20 singles on the Modern Rock Tracks chart: "Linger", "Dreams", "Zombie", "Ode to My Family", "Ridiculous Thoughts", "Salvation", "Free to Decide", and "Promises". Their fifth studio album, Wake Up and Smell the Coffee, was released in October 2001.
In early 2009, after a six-year hiatus, the Cranberries reunited and began a North American tour followed by shows in Latin America and Europe. The band recorded their sixth album, Roses, in May 2011 and released it in February 2012. Something Else, which covered many of the band's most popular songs along with new orchestral accompaniments provided by the Irish Chamber Orchestra, was released in April 2017. The album also included three new songs: "The Glory", "Rupture", and "Why?
On 15 January 2018, lead singer Dolores O'Riordan was found dead of drowning in a London hotel room. She had recently arrived in London for a studio mixing session on her D.A.R.K. album and to discuss the band's latest album with record label BMG. The Cranberries confirmed in September 2018 that they would not continue as a band; their final album, In the End, was released in April 2019 and they disbanded afterward. Noel Hogan stated: "the Cranberries was the four of us. We don't want to do this without Dolores. So we're going to leave it after this."
The Cranberries' total sales are between over 40 and near 50 million albums worldwide as of 2019. The band ranks as one of the best-selling alternative acts of the 1990s, which garnered them an MTV Europe Music Award, a World Music Award, an International Group nomination at the Brit Awards, a Juno nomination, and a Juno Award win. The band was nominated for the Ivor Novello Awards and received an Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement. In 1998, they performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. In 2016, they received a BMI Award with a Special Citation of Achievement. In the End earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album.
"Linger" is a song by Irish alternative rock band The Cranberries from their debut studio album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? (1993). Composed by band members Dolores O'Riordan and Noel Hogan, and produced by Stephen Street, "Linger" was first released as the second and final single from the album on 23 February 1993, by Island Records. It was later re-released worldwide on 17 February 1994.
"Linger", which has an acoustic arrangement featuring a string section, became the band's first major hit, peaking at number three in their native Ireland, number eight in the United States, and number 14 in the United Kingdom. The single remained on the US Billboard Hot 100 for 24 weeks. Additionally, "Linger" was voted by Australian Triple J listeners as number three on the Triple J Hottest 100, 1993 chart.
In 1990, "Linger" was released on a demo tape with "Dreams" in Ireland only in the summer of that year under their initial band name, The Cranberry Saw Us. In 2017, an acoustic, stripped-down version of "Linger" was released as the lead single from the band's seventh studio album Something Else.
If you
If you could return
Don't let it burn
Don't let it fade
I'm sure I'm not being rude
But it's just your attitude
It's tearing me apart
It's ruining everything

I swore
I swore I would be true
And honey, so did you
So why were you holding her hand?
Is that the way we stand?
Were you lying all the time?
Was it just a game to you?

But I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger, ah, ah ah
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?

Oh, I thought the world of you
I thought nothing could go wrong
But I was wrong
I was wrong

If you
If you could get by trying not to lie
Things wouldn't be so confused
And I wouldn't feel so used
But you always really knew
I just wanna be with you

And I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger, ah, ah ah
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?

And I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger, ah, ah ah
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?

You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger, ah, ah ah
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?

Wham! were an English pop music duo consisting of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, formed in Bushey in 1981. They became one of the most commercially successful pop acts of the 1980s, selling more than 30 million certified records worldwide from 1982 to 1986. Influenced by funk and soul music and presenting themselves as disaffected youth, Wham!'s 1983 debut album Fantastic addressed the United Kingdom's unemployment problem and teen angst over adulthood.
Their second studio álbum Make It Big in 1984 was a worldwide pop smash hit, charting number one in both the UK and the United States. Associated with the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the US, the singles from the album—"Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", "Everything She Wants" and "Careless Whisper"—all topped the US Billboard Hot 100. In 1985, Wham! made a highly publicised 10-day visit to China, the first by a Western pop group. The event was seen as a major watershed moment in increasing friendly bilateral relations between China and the West.
"Everything She Wants" is a song by British pop duo Wham!, originally released as a single in 1984 on Epic Records on a double A-side with "Last Christmas". It was written and produced by George Michael, one half of the duo, becoming their third consecutive million-selling number-one hit in the United States.
Uh huh huh...
Oh yeah...
Work...work...
Somebody told me,
Boy, everything she wants is everything she sees...
I guess I must have loved you.
'Cause I said you were the perfect girl for me,
Maybe...
But now we're six months older...
And everything you want and everything you see,
Is out of reach...not good enough...
I don't know what the hell you want from me but boy...
Uh huh huh...
Oh...oh...
Uh huh huh...
Doo doo doo...
La la la la...
Somebody tell me,
Won't you tell me...
Why I work so hard for you?
All to give you money
All to give you money...
Some people work for a living,
Some people work for fun,
Girl, I just work for you.
They told me marriage was a give and take,
Well, show me you can take you've got some giving to do.
And now you tell me that you're having my baby,
I'll tell you that I'm happy if you want me to...
One step further and my back will break,
If my best isn't good enough
Than how can it be good enough for two?
I can't work any harder than I do...
Somebody tell me,
Won't you tell me...
Why I work so hard for you?
All to give you money,
All to give you money...
Oh...
Why do I do the things I do?
I'd tell you if I knew.
My God...
I don't even think that I love you....
Won't you tell me...
Tell me...tell me...tell me...
How could you settle for a boy like me,
When all I could see was the end of the week...
All the things we sign,
And the things we buy,
Ain't gonna keep us together...
It's just a matter of time.
My situation,
Never changes.
Walking in that manner through that door,
Like a stranger,
But the wages...
I give you all you say you want is love...
And all I can see is the end of the week,
All the things we sign,
And the things we buy,
Ain't gonna keep us together...
Girl, it's just a matter of time.

KISSING A FOOL
GEORGE MICHAEL
SONGWRITER: GEORGE MICHAEL
COUNTRY: U. K.
ALBUM: FAITH
LABEL: COLUMBIA RECORDS
GENRE: SOPHISTI-POP
YEAR: 1988

"Kissing a Fool" is a song written and performed by George Michael and released by Columbia Records in 1988.
A ballad with minimal instrumentation and a jazz feel, the song was written about Michael's insecurities as a soulmate and partner because of the baggage and reputation with which he came. According to Michael, the vocals were recorded in a cappella in one take. "Kissing a Fool" was the working-title for the album, which later was renamed to Faith.
Aside from Michael's vocals, the song employs piano, guitar, bass, drums, and a brass section. It was the seventh and final single to be released from the álbum Faith. It was also the least successful, making number 18 on the UK Singles Chart and becoming the first single in five not to make number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. However, it reached number one on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks and became a number 5 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining a fan favourite and being regarded critically as one of his most accessible and honest recordings.
"Kissing a Fool" was Michael's last single for almost two years in the United Kingdom. It was later covered by Michael Bublé on his self-titled album and released as a single in the United States and reached number 29 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
George Michael (born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou; 25 June 1963 – 25 December 2016) was an English singer, songwriter, record producer, and philanthropist who rose to fame as a member of the music duo Wham! and later embarked on a solo career. Michael sold over 80 million records worldwide making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He achieved seven number one songs on the UK Singles Chart and eight number one songs on the US Billboard Hot 100. He was widely known for his success in the 1980s and 1990s, including Wham! singles such as "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Last Christmas" and solo singles such as "Careless Whisper" and "Faith".
Michael formed the duo Wham! With Andrew Ridgeley in 1981. The band's first two albums, Fantastic (1983) and Make It Big (1984), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. Michael's first solo single "Careless Whisper" reached number one in over 20 countries, including the UK and US. Michael's debut solo album, Faith, was released in 1987, topping the UK Albums Chart and staying at number one on the Billboard 200 for 12 weeks. Four singles from the album--"Faith", "Father Figure", "One More Try", and "Monkey"—reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Faith was named Album of the Year at the 1989 Grammy Awards. Three years after the release of Faith, Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 (1990) was released, which included the Billboard Hot 100 number one "Praying for Time". "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", a 1991 duet with Elton John, was also a transatlantic number one.
Michael, who came out as gay in 1998, was an active LGBT rights campaigner and HIV/AIDS charity fundraiser. Michael's personal life and legal troubles made headlines during the late 1990s and 2000s, as he was arrested for public lewdness in 1998 and was arrested for multiple drug-related offences after that time. The 2005 documentary A Different Story covered his career and personal life. Michael's first tour since 1991, the 25 Live tour, spanned three tours over the course of three years; 2006, 2007, and 2008. Four years later, he performed his final concert at London's Earls Court in 2012. In the early hours of 25 December 2016, Michael was found dead at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire aged 53. A coroner's report attributed his death to natural causes.
Michael won various music awards including two Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, three American Music Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards and six Ivor Novello Awards. In 2004, the Radio Academy named Michael the most played artist on British radio during the period 1984–2004. In 2008, he was ranked 40th on Billboard's list of the Greatest Hot 100 Artists of All Time.
You are far
When I could have been your star
You listened to people
Who scared you to death and from my heart
Strange that you were strong enough
To even make a start
But you'll never find
Peace of mind
'Till you listen to your heart

People
You can never change the way they feel
Better let them do just what they will
For they will
If you let them
Steal your heart from you
People
Will always make a lover feel a fool
But you knew I loved you
We could have shown them all
We should have seen love through

Fooled me with the tears in your eyes
Covered me with kisses and lies
So goodbye
But please don't take my heart

You are far
I'm never gonna be your star
I'll pick up the pieces
And mend my heart
Maybe I'll be strong enough
I don't know where to start
But I'll never find
Peace of mind
While I listen to my heart

People
You can never change the way they feel
Better let them do just what they will
For they will
If you let them steal your heart
And people
Will always make a lover feel a fool
But you knew I loved you
We could have shown them all

But remember this
Every other kiss
That you ever give
Long as we both live
When you need the hand of another man
One you really can surrender with
I will wait for you
Like I always do
There's something there
That can't compare
With any other

You are far
When I could have been your star
You listened to people
Who scared you to death and from my heart
Strange that I was wrong enough
To think you loved me too
I guess you were kissing a fool
You must have been kissing a fool.
