Robin Alan Thicke (born March 10, 1977) is an American-Canadian singer, songwriter and record producer.
He has collaborated with numerous artists, such as Nicki Minaj, 3T, T.I., Christina Aguilera, Jessie J, K. Michelle, Pharrell, DJ Cassidy, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Flo Rida, Brandy, Kid Cudi, Mary J. Blige and even composed songs for Marc Anthony. Thicke worked on albums such as Usher's Confessions and Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III, while releasing his own R&B singles in the United States including "Lost Without U", "Magic", and "Sex Therapy". He gained international fame in 2013 with his single "Blurred Lines", which reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. He is currently a judge on the Fox musical competition show The Masked Singer.
Thicke is the son of actress Gloria Loring and actor Alan Thicke. He married actress Paula Patton in 2005; in 2014, their separation and divorce were covered extensively by the tabloid press.
"Blurred Lines" is a song by American singer Robin Thicke featuring fellow American singer Pharrell Williams and American rapper T.I., from Thicke's studio album of the same name(2013). The song was solely produced by Williams. It was released as the album's lead single on March 26, 2013, through Star Trak Recordings and Interscope Records. For the lyrics, Thicke said the song is about his former wife Paula Patton. Musically, "Blurred Lines" is na R&B and pop track with instrumentation consisting of bass guitar, drums, and percussion.
The single was negatively reviewed by many music critics, with some saying it glorified rape culture. Commercially, the song topped the charts of 25 countries and reached the top five of six others. "Blurred Lines" spent 12 consecutive weeks atop the US Billboard Hot 100, making it the longest-running single of 2013 in the United States. In June 2018, the song was certified a diamond certification by the Recording Industry Association of America(RIAA). It became one of the best-selling singles of all time, with sales of 14.8 million, simultaneously breaking the record for the largest radio audience in history. The song was nominated for awards, including Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.
A music video for "Blurred Lines" was directed by Diane Martel and was released on March 20, 2013, while an unrated version was released on March 28. In both videos, Thicke, T.I., and Williams are featured with models Emily Ratajkowski, Elle Evans, and Jessi M'Bengue performing several activities, including the models snuggling in bed with Thicke and sitting on a stuffed dog. After being on the site for just under one week, the unrated version of the video was removed from YouTube for violating the site's terms of service. Many critics panned both visuals, with some calling it misogynist and sexist.
To promote the song, Thicke performed on televised live events including the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival, the The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and a highly controversial performance with American singer Miley Cyrus at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. The song became the subject of a bitter legal dispute with the family of American singer Marvin Gaye and Bridgeport Music, who argued the song infringed on copyrights to Gaye's 1977 single "Got to Give It Up". Williams and Thicke were found liable for copyright infringement by a federal jury in March 2015, and Gaye was awarded posthumous songwriting credit based on the royalties pledged to his estate.
Everybody get up
Everybody get up
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

If you can't hear what I'm trying to say
If you can't read from the same page
Maybe I'm going deaf
Maybe I'm going blind
Maybe I'm out of my mind

Ok, now he was close
Tried to domesticate you
But you're an animal
Baby, it's in your nature
Just let me liberate you (hey, hey, hey)
You don't need no papers (hey, hey, hey)
That man is not your maker
And that's why I'm gon' take a good girl

I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it

You're a good, girl
Can't let it get past me
You're far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted

I hate these blurred lines
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it

But you're a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me (everybody get up)

What do they make dreams for
When you got them jeans on?
What do we need steam for?
You the hottest bitch in this place

I feel so lucky (hey, hey, hey)
You wanna hug me (hey, hey, hey)
What rhymes with, "Hug me?" (hey, hey, hey)

Ok, now he was close
Tried to domesticate you
But you're an animal
Baby, it's in your nature
Just let me liberate you (hey, hey, hey)
You don't need no papers (hey, hey, hey)
That man is not your maker
And that's why I'm gon' take a good girl

I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it

You're a good, girl
Can't let it get past me
You're far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted

I hate these blurred lines
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it

But you're a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me (everybody get up)

One thing I ask of you
Let me be the one you back that ass to
Go, from Malibu to Paris, boo
Yeah, I had a bitch, but she ain't bad as you
So hit me up when you pass through
I'll give you something big enough to tear your ass in two
Swag on, even when you dress casual
I mean it's almost unbearable
In a hundred years not dare, would I
Pull a Pharside let you pass me by
Nothing like your last guy, he too square for you
He don't smack that ass and pull your hair like that
So I just watch and wait for you to salute
But you didn't pick
Not many women can refuse this pimpin'
I'm a nice guy, but don't get it if you get with me

Shake the vibe, get down, get up
Do it like it hurt, like it hurt
What you don't like work?

Baby, can you breathe?
I got this from Jamaica
It always works for me
Dakota to Decatur

No more pretending (hey, hey, hey)
'Cause now you winning (hey, hey, hey)
Here's our beginning
I always wanted a good girl

I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it

You're a good girl
Can't let it get past me
You're far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted

I hate these blurred lines
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it

But you're a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me

Everybody get up
Everybody get up
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey.

I just want to be close to Your heart
This is where my healing finds its start
Here is where I find my peace
Where my soul is finally free

I'm going all in, in over my head
I'm not scared to get drenched in Your love
Wherever You go, God, I will follow
I'm not scared to get lost in Your love

I don't have to see where this road ends
Just as long as my hand's in Your hand
Here is where I wanna stay
Held within Your sweet embrace

I'm going all in, in over my head
I'm not scared to get drenched in Your love
Wherever You go, God, I will follow
I'm not scared to get lost in Your love
I'm not scared to get lost in Your love

'Cause Your power's found in the roughest Waters
Where I have no choice but to trust You, Father
Where my every fear has to surrender
I will trust in You forever
Take me there, oh, take me there

Your power's found in the roughest waters
Where I have no choice but to trust You, Father
Where my every fear has to surrender
I will trust in You forever
Take me there, oh, take me there

I'm going all in, in over my head
I'm not scared to get drenched in Your love
Wherever You go, God, I will follow
I'm not scared to get lost in Your love
No, I'm not scared to get lost in Your love

I'm going all in, in over my head
I'm not scared to get drenched in Your love
Wherever You go, God, I will follow
I'm not scared to get lost in Your love
No, I'm not scared to get lost in Your love.

It also reached #1 on the adult contemporary chart for three weeks, and #2 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for two weeks, also in early 1987. The song reached the Top 40 on the Country chart, hitting #38.
The song came and went
Like the times that we spent
Hiding out from the rain under the carnival tent
I laughed and she'd smile
It would last for awhile
You don't know what you got till you lose it all again

Listen to the mandolin rain
Listen to the music on the lake
Listen to my heart break every time she runs away
Listen to the banjo wind
A sad song drifting low
Listen to the tears roll
Down my face as she turns to go

A cool evening dance
Listening to the bluegrass band takes the chill
From the air till they play the last song
I'll do my time
Keeping you off my mind but there's moments
That I find, I'm not feeling too strong

Listen to the mandolin rain
Listen to the music on the lake
Listen to my heart break every time she runs away
Listen to the banjo wind
A sad song drifting low
Listen to the tears roll
Down my face as she turns to go

Running down by the lakeshore
She did love the sound of a summer storm
It played on the lake like a mandolin
Now it's washing her away once again

Listen to the mandolin rain
Listen to the music on the lake
Listen to my heart break every time she runs away
Listen to the banjo wind
A sad song drifting low
Listen to the tears roll
Down my face as she turns to go

The boat's steaming in
I wat
H the sidewheel spin and I
Think about her when I hear that whistle blow
I can't change my mind
I knew all the time that she'd go
But that's a choice I made long ago

Listen to the mandolin rain
Listen to the music on the lake
Listen to my heart break every time she runs away
Listen to the banjo wind
A sad song drifting low
Listen to the tears roll
Down my face as she turns to go.

Baby, baby, when I look at you
I get a warm feeling inside
There's something about the things you do
That keeps me satisfied

I wouldn't lie to you, baby
It's mainly a physical thing
This feeling that I got for you, baby
It makes me wanna sing

I feel for you
I think I love you
I feel for you
I think I love you

Baby, baby, when I lay wit' you
There's no place I'd rather be
I can't believe, can't believe it's true
The things that you do to me

I wouldn't lie to you, baby
I'm physically attracted to you
This feeling that I got for you, baby (Ooh baby)
There's nothing that I wouldn't do (For you girl)

I feel for you
I think I love you
I feel for you
I think I love you

Play

I think it's love
I feel for you
I think it's love
I feel for you
I think I love you
I feel for you
I think it's love

Play

I feel for you
I think I love you
I feel for you
I think I love you.
