Daniel Grayling Fogelberg (August 13, 1951 – December 16, 2007) was an American musician, songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. He is known for his 1980s songs, including "Longer" (1979), "Same Old Lang Syne" (1980), and "Leader of the Band" (1982).
"Make Love Stay" is the title of a popular song from 1983 written and recorded by the American singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg. It was one of two new songs included on his 1982 greatest hits album, along with the song "Missing You".
Fogelberg later described "Make Love Stay" in the liner notes to a retrospective album as a "sinuous piece written around a chapter of Tom RobbinsStill Life with Woodpecker" and as "a musical question that, unfortunately, eludes me still."
"Make Love Stay" peaked at Nº. 29 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in March 1983. It was Fogelberg's third song to top the Billboard adult contemporary chart, following his earlier hits "Longer" and "Leader of the Band".
Now that we love
Now that the lonely nights are over
How do we make love stay?
Now that we know
The fire can burn bright or merely smolder
How do we keep it from dying away?

Elusive as dreams
Barely remembered in the morning
Love like a phantom flies
But held in the heart
It pales like the empty smile adorning
A statue with sightless eyes.

Moments fleet, taste sweet within the rapture
When precious flesh is greedily consumed
But mystery's a thing not easily captured
And once deceased not easily exhumed.

Now that we love
Now that the lonely nights are over
How do we make love stay?

Moments fleet, taste so sweet within the rapture
When precious flesh is greedily consumed
But mystery's a thing not easily captured
And once deceased not easily exhumed.

Now that we love
Look at the moonless night and tell me
How do we make love stay?

Hey have you ever tried
Really reaching out for the other side?
I may be climbing on rainbows
But baby, here goes

Dreams are for those who sleep
Life is for us to keep
And if you're wondering what this song is leading to,
I want to make it with you
I really think that we could make it, girl

Though you don't know me well
And every little thing only time will tell
If you believe the things that I do,
And we'll see it through

Life can be short or long
Love can be right or wrong
And if I chose the one I'd like to help me through
I'd like to make it with you
I really think that we could make it, girl

Baby you know that dreams there for those who sleep
Life is for us to keep
And if I chose the one I'd like to help me through
I'd like to make it with you
I really think that we could make it, girl.

BETTER PLACE

RACHEL PLATTEN
SONGWRITERS: RACHEL PLATTEN & SALLY SELTMANN
COUNTRY: U. S. A.
ALBUM: WILDFIRE
LABEL: COLUMBIA RECORDS
GENRE: POP
YEAR: 2016

"Better Place" is a song recorded by American singer and songwriter Rachel Platten for her third studio album, Wildfire(2016). The record's third and final single, initially released as a promotional single on December 18, 2015, was distributed to Hot adult contemporary radio for airplay in the United States. Platten co-wrote the song with Sally Seltmann while Jon Levine served as the sole producer. The singer wrote the song after discovering her sister had become engaged, which she felt was inspirational.
"Better Place" divided music critics, with some praising the piano ballad's simplicity and production, and others finding it underwhelming. In the United States, it peaked at number 21 on the Adult Top 40 and peaked at number 227 on Russia's radio chart. An accompanying music video was directed by Matthew Stawski and released on May 9 of the same year. It features several couples and individuals gathering together and embracing each other. Platten dedicated it to her former school teacher and labeled it as a "social experiment". She has performed it on various occasions, including during an episode of Today Show and as part of a setlist on her summer concerts. The song appeared in the 2017 Microsoft Windows holiday commercial to promote Paint 3D.

I'll tell the world, I'll sing a song
It's a better place since you came along
Since you came along
Your touch is sunlight through the trees
Your kisses are the ocean breeze
Everything's alright when you're with me

And I hold my favorite thing
I hold the love that you bring
But it feels like I've opened my eyes again
And the colors are golden and bright again
There's a song in my heart, I feel like I belong
It's a better place since you came along
It's a better place since you came along

I see the whole world in your eyes
It's like I've known you all my life
We just feel so right
So I pour my heart into your hands
It's like you really understand
You love the way I am

And I hold my favorite thing
I hold the happiness you bring
But it feels like I've opened my eyes again
And the colors are golden and bright again
And the sun paints the skies and the wind sings our song
It's a better place since you came along
It's a better place since you came along

Now I'm alright
Now I'm alright
Everything's alright

'Cause it feels like I've opened my eyes again
And the colors are golden and bright again
There's a song in my heart, I feel like I belong
It's a better place since you came along
It's a better place since you came along.

VISION OF LOVE

MARIAH CAREY
SONGWRITERS: Mariah Carey & BEN MARGULIES
COUNTRY: U. S. A.
Album: MARIAH CAREY
LABEL: COLUMBIA. RECORDS
GENRE: r&b
YEAR: 1990

"Vision of Love" is the debut single by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey. Written by Carey and Ben Margulies, "Vision of Love" was released as the lead single from Carey's self-titled debut album on May 15, 1990. After being featured on Carey's demo tape for Columbia, the song was re-recorded and produced by Rhett Lawrence and Narada Michael Walden. "Vision of Love" features a slow-dance theme tempo and backing vocals sung by Carey herself, and introduces her usage of the whistle register. Lyrically, the song describes both a past and present relationship with a lover: Carey describes the "vision of love" she dreamed of, as well as the present love she feels for him.
The accompanying music video for "Vision of Love" was filmed in April 1990. It features Carey in a large cathedral, where she meditates and sings by a large picture window. "Vision of Love" was performed on several television and award show ceremonies, such as The Arsenio Hall Show, Good Morning America, and the 33rd Annual Grammy Awards. It has been performed at almost every one of Carey's concerts and tours, and is featured on Carey's live álbum MTV Unplugged(1992) and on many of her compilation albums including #1's(1998), Greatest Hits(2001) and The Ballads(2008).
"Vision of Love" received universal acclaim from music critics. While the song's production was typical of late 1980s pop, the vocals were not, being much more showy and expressing a wider range than artists popular at the time such as Paula Abdul and Debbie Gibson. It has been credited with popularizing the use of melisma in contemporary popular music and for inspiring several artists to pursue a music career. The New Yorker named "Vision of Love" the "Magna Carta of melisma" for its and Carey's influence on pop and R&B singers and American Idol contestants. Additionally, Rolling Stone said that "the fluttering strings of notes that decorate songs like "Vision of Love," inspired the entire American Idol vocal school, for better or worse, and virtually every other female R&B singer since the nineties." The song topped the singles charts in Canada, New Zealand, and the United States, where it spent four weeks atop the chart.
Treated me kind
Sweet destiny
Carried me through desperation
To the one that was waiting for me
It took so long
Still I believed
Somehow the one that I needed
Would find me eventually

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you've given to me

Prayed through the nights
Felt so alone
Suffered through alienation
Carried the weight on my own
Had to be strong
So I believed
And now I know I've succeeded
In finding the place I conceived

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you've given to me
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you've given me

I've realized a dream
And I visualized
The love that came to be
Feel so alive
I'm so thankful that I've received
The answer that heaven has sent down to me

You treated me kind (yeah)
Sweet destiny (yes, you did)
And I'll be eternally grateful (oh)
Holding you so close to me (prayed through the night)
Prayed through the nights (so faithfully)
So faithfully (faithfully)
Knowing the one that I needed
Would find me eventually (he would find me)

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you've given to me
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you turned out to be, yeah, mmm.
