Lady of the Night is the debut studio albumby
American singer-songwriter Donna Summer,
released on February 26, 1974. The album, which was produced by Pete Bellotte, was
released only in The Netherlands, and
spawned the minor hit singles "The Hostage"
and "Lady of the Night" in that country. The songs, written by the Moroder/Bellotte
team, are mostly of the pop/rock/folk variety. The track "Lady of the Night" is popular
in Germany, receiving air time on radio stations that feature classics of the
sixties and seventies. Being formerly married to an Austrian, Donna Summer was
a fluent German speaker and recorded a number of songs in that language.
"Full of Emptiness" was excised
from all CD reissues, as the track was re-mixed and re-released on her next
album, 1975's Love to Love
You Baby.
They call her the
lady of the night
She's a woman of the world
And easy-living girl with love for sale
That's what they call
her the lady of the night
No one seems to know her name
And even less about the place
From where she came
Every evening when
the night is close at hand
You'll find the lady on the rue d'avignon
In a half lit hotel doorway the lady advertises warmly
It's just a job but she'll do the best she can
Don't try to change
this lady of the night
She's a lot like you and me
And less than what she seems to be
And easy-living girl
(she is the lady of the night)
She's a woman of the world
(she is the lady of the night)
With lots of loving for sale
(she is the lady of the night)
Lady lady of the night
Round here they call
her the lady of the night
In a perfume hotel room
Shadows dance upon the wall and fate at dawn
She's no beginner this lady of the night
Never try that funny stuff
'cause lady can be tough
Be warned!
She's a lot like you
and me
(she is the lady of the night)
And never just what she seems
(she is the lady of the night)
No one seems to know her name
(she is the lady of the night)
Or the place from where she came.

I remember still, I
guess I always will
That winters day I took the west bound flight
As I looked down from the plane
You were standing in the rain
You waved goodbye
Till I was out of sight
And I can see them
shining
Through the Willows and the Pines
The lights of Cincinatti
Oh, so many miles behind
I could build myself a new life
And make it on my own
But the lights of Cincinnati
Will be calling me back home
Sometimes late at
night
I watch the fire light
Make pictures of a life that used to be
For a moment I'm back there
In that same old rocking chair
You look across the room
And smile at me
And I can see them
shining
Through the Willows and the Pines
The lights of Cincinatti
Oh, so many miles behind
I could build myself a new life
And make it on my own
But the lights of Cincinnati
Will be calling me back home
But the lights of
Cincinnati
Will be callin' me back home.

I gave all my oxygen
to people that could breathe
I gave away my money and now we don't even speak
I drove miles and miles, but would you do the same for me?
Oh, honestly?
Offered off my shoulder just for you to cry upon
Gave you constant shelter and a bed to keep you warm
They gave me the heartache and in return I gave a song
It goes on and on
Life can get you down
so I just numb the way it feels
I drown it with a drink and out of date prescription pills
And all the ones that love me they just left me on the shelf
My farewell
So before I save someone else, I've got to save myself
I gave you all my
energy and I took away your pain
'Cause human beings are destined to radiate or dream
What line do we stand upon 'cause from here looks the same?
And only scars remain
Life can get you down
so I just numb the way it feels
I drown it with a drink and out of date prescription pills
And all the ones that love me they just left me on the shelf
My farewell
So before I save someone else, I've got to save myself
But if don't
Then I'll go back
To where I'm rescuing a stranger
Just because they needed saving just like that
Oh, I'm here again
Between the devil and the danger
But I guess it's just my nature
My dad was wrong
'Cause I'm not like my mum
'Cause she'd just smile and I'm complaining in a song
But it helps
So before I save someone else
I've got to save myself
Life can get you down
so I just numb the way it feels
I drown it with a drink and out of date prescription pills
And all the ones that love me they just left me on the shelf
My farewell
So before I save someone else, I've got to save myself
And before I blame someone else, I've got to save myself
And before I love someone else, I've got to love myself.

After signing to EMIin 1991,
Radiohead released their debut single, "Creep",
in 1992. It became a worldwide hit after the release of their debut album, Pablo Honey(1993).
Their popularity and critical standing rose in the UK with the release of their
second album, The Bends(1995).
Radiohead's third album, OK Computer(1997),
brought them international fame; noted for its complex production and themes
of modern alienation, it is
acclaimed as a landmark record and one of the best albums in popular music. Kid A(2000) marked a dramatic
change in style, incorporating influences from electronic music, jazz, classical
music and krautrock. Though Kid
A divided listeners, it later attracted wide acclaim. It was followed by Amnesiac(2001),
recorded in the same sessions.
Hail to the Thief(2003),
with lyrics inspired by the War on Terror,
was Radiohead's final album for EMI. Their subsequent releases have pioneered
alternative release platforms such as pay-what-you-wantand BitTorrent;
Radiohead self-released their seventh album, In Rainbows(2007),
as a downloadfor
which customers could set their own price, to critical and chart success. Their
eighth album, The King of Limbs(2011),
an exploration of rhythm, was developed using extensive loopingand sampling. A Moon Shaped Pool(2016) prominently featured Jonny Greenwood's orchestralarrangements.

"Everything in Its Right Place" is
a song by the English rock band Radiohead,
the opening track on their fourth album Kid A(2000). It features synthesiser, manipulated vocals, and lyrics
inspired by the stress singer Thom Yorke,
experienced while promoting Radiohead's 1997 album OK Computer.
Yorke
wrote "Everything in Its Right Place" on piano. Radiohead worked on
it in a conventional band arrangement before transferring it to synthesiser,
and described it as a breakthrough in the album recording. Though it alienated
some listeners expecting more of Radiohead's earlier rock music,
"Everything in Its Right Place" was named one of the best songs of
the decade by several publications.
