Reviens moi mon alter, reviens moi héros

J'ramasse mon coquillage fragile

Reviens moi mon alter, reviens moi héros

Solo j'fais naufrage

Pour ne plus jamais me voir
Sans toi
Sans toi
Sans toi
Sans toi
Sans toi.

 TUNNEL OF LOVE

DIRE STRAITS
SONGWRITERS: RICHARD RODGERS; MARK KNOPFLER & OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN
COUNTRY: U. K.
ALBUM: MAKING MOVIES
LABEL: VERTIGO RECORDS
GENRE: ROCK
YEAR: 1980

Dire Straits were a British rock band formed in London in 1977 by Mark Knopfler(lead vocals and lead guitar), David Knopfler(rhythm guitar and backing vocals), John Illsley(bass guitar and backing vocals) and Pick Withers(drums and percussion). They were active from 1977 to 1988 and again from 1991 to 1995.
Their first single, "Sultans of Swing", from their 1978 self-titled debut album, reached the top ten in the UK and US charts. It was followed by hit singles including "Romeo and Juliet" (1981), "Private Investigations"(1982), "Twisting by the Pool" (1983), "Money for Nothing"(1985), and "Walk of Life"(1985). Their most commercially successful album, Brothers in Arms(1985), has sold more than 30 million copies; it was the first album to sell a million copies on compact disc and is the eighth-bestselling album in UK history. According to the Guinness Book of British Hit Albums, Dire Straits have spent over 1,100 weeks on the UK albums chart, the fifth most of all time.
Dire Straits' sound draws from various influences, including country, folk, the blues rock of J. J. Cale, and jazz. Their stripped-down sound contrasted with punk rock and demonstrated a roots rock influence that emerged from pub rock. There were several changes in personnel, with Mark Knopfler and Illsley being the only members who lasted from the beginning of the band's existence to the end. After their first breakup in 1988, Knopfler told Rolling Stone: "A lot of press reports were saying we were the biggest band in the world. There's not an accent then on the music, there's an accent on popularity. I needed a rest." They disbanded for good in 1995, after which Knopfler launched a solo career full-time. He has since declined reunion offers.
Dire Straits were called "the biggest British rock band of the 80s" by Classic Rock magazine; their 1985–1986 world tour, which included a performance at Live Aid in July 1985, set a record in Australasia. Their final world tour from 1991 to 1992 sold 7.1 million tickets. Dire Straits won four Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards(Best British Group twice), two MTV Video Music Awards, and various other awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. Dire Straits have sold an estimated 100 million units worldwide, including 51.4million certified units, making them one of the best-selling music artists.
"Tunnel of Love" is a 1981 single by Dire Straits. It appears on the 1980 album Making Movies, and subsequently on the live albums Alchemy and Live at the BBC and the greatest hits albums Money for Nothing, Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of Dire Straits, and The Best of Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler: Private Investigations. The song was also featured in the 1982 Richard Gere film An Officer and a Gentleman and was included in the film’s accompanying soundtrack album.
"Tunnel of Love" is one of only three Dire Straits songs not credited to Mark Knopfler alone (the other two are "Money for Nothing" and "What's The Matter Baby?"). The song itself is entirely by Knopfler, but the opening instrumental is an arrangement of the "Carousel Waltz" from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel.
The song mentions the Spanish City which, at the time the song was released, housed fun fair rides and amusements, referenced throughout the song. Spanish City is in Whitley Bay, which is also referenced near the end of the song (along with Cullercoats).
Getting crazy on the waltzers
But it's the life that I choose
Hey, sing about the six blade, sing about the switchback
And a torture tattoo
And I've been riding on a ghost train
Where the cars, they scream and slam
And I don't know where I'll be tonight
But I'd always tell you where I am

In a screaming ring of faces
I seen her standing in the light
She had a ticket for the races
Yeah, just like me, she was a victim of the night
I put my hand upon the lever
Said let it rock and let it roll
I had the one-arm bandit fever
There was an arrow through my heart and my soul

And the big wheel keep on turnin'
Neon burnin' up above
And I'm just high on the world
Come on and take a low ride with me girl
On the tunnel of love
Yeah, love

It's just a danger
When you're riding at your own risk
She said, "You are the perfect stranger"
She said, "Baby, let's keep it like this"
It's just a cakewalk, twisting baby, yeah, step right up and say
"Hey mister, give me two, give me two now
'Cause any two can play"

And the big wheel keep on turning
Neon burnin' up above
And I'm just high on the world
Come on and take a low ride with me, girl
On the tunnel of love
Oh love, love

Well it's been money for muscle on a another whirligig
Money for muscle and another girl I dig
Another hustle just to
Just to make it big and rock away, rock away
Oh rock away, rock away

And girl, it looks so pretty to me
Like it always did
Oh, like the Spanish city to me
When we were kids
Yeah, girl it looks so pretty to me
Just like it always did
Oh, like the Spanish city to me
When we were kids.

Woh la!
Check it out

She took off her silver locket
She said, "Remember me by this"
She put her hand in my pocket
I got a keepsake and a kiss
And in the roar of dust and diesel
I stood and watched her walk away
I could have caught up with her easy enough
But something must have made me stay

And the big wheel keep on turning
Neon burnin' up above
And I'm just high on this world
Come on and take a low ride with me, girl
On the tunnel of love
Yea love, love

On the tunnel of love
Woah love, love

Yeah, now I'm searchin' through these carousels and the carnival arcades
Searching everywhere from steeplechase to palisades
In any shooting gallery where promises are made
To rock away, rock away
Rock away, rock away
From Cullercoats to Whitley bay
And to rock away

And, girl it looks so pretty to me
Like it always did
Like the Spanish city to me
When we were kids
Girl, it looks so pretty to me
Like it always did
Like the Spanish city to me
When we were kids.

You're always aiming paper airplanes at me when you're around
You build me up like building blocks just so you can bring me down
You can crush my Candy Cane but you'll never catch me cry
If you dangle that diploma and I deck you, don't be surprised

I know my ABC's, yet you keep teaching me
I say, fuck your degree, alphabet boy
You think you're smarter than me with all your bad poetry
Fuck all your ABC's, alphabet boy

I'm not a little kid now
Watch me get big now
Spell my name on the fridge now
With all your alphabet toys
You won the spelling bee now
But are you smarter than me now?
You're the prince of the playground
Little alphabet boy

Apples aren't an always appropriate apologies
Butterscotch and bubblegum drops are bittersweet to me
You call me a child while you keep counting all your coins
But you're not my daddy and I'm not your dolly
And your dictionary's destroyed

I know my ABC's, yet you keep teaching me
I say, fuck your degree, alphabet boy
You think you're smarter than me with all your bad poetry
Fuck all your ABC's, alphabet boy

I'm not a little kid now
Watch me get big now
Spell my name on the fridge now
With all your alphabet toys
You won the spelling bee now
But are you smarter than me now?
You're the prince of the playground
Little alphabet boy

Alphabet boy
Alphabet boy
Alphabet boy
Alphabet boy
My alphabet boy
Oh oh

I'm not a little kid now
Watch me get big now
Spell my name on the fridge now
With all your alphabet toys
You won the spelling bee now
But are you smarter than me now?
You're the prince of the playground
Little alphabet boy
