After rising to prominence in October 2012 by featuring on Disclosure's breakthrough single "Latch", which peaked at number eleven on the UK Singles Chart, Smith was subsequently featured on Naughty Boy's "La La La", which became a number one single in May 2013. In December 2013, Smith was nominated for the 2014 Brit Critics' Choice Award and the BBC's Sound of 2014 poll, winning both.
Smith's debut studio album, In the Lonely Hour, was released in May 2014 on Capitol Records UK. The album's lead single, "Lay Me Down", was released prior to "La La La". The album's second single, "Money on My Mind", became Smith's second number one single in the UK. The third single, "Stay with Me", was internationally successful, reaching number one in the UK and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100, while subsequent singles "I'm Not the Only One" and "Like I Can" reached the top ten in the UK. The album won four awards, at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, including Best Pop Vocal Album, Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
For Smith's and Jimmy Napes's song "Writing's on the Wall", the theme for the James Bond film Spectre(2015), Smith won the Golden Globe Award and the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Smith's second studio album, The Thrill of It All, was released in November 2017 and debuted atop the UK and US album charts. The lead single, "Too Good at Goodbyes", reached number one in the UK and Australia and number four in the US. Following the 2018 single "Promises" with Calvin Harris, which peaked at number one in the UK, Smith released "Dancing with a Stranger" with Normani in 2019, which reached the top ten in the UK and the US and was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2020 Brit Awards, and followed it by releasing a string of commercially successful singles "How Do You Sleep?", "To Die For", and "I'm Ready" with Demi Lovato; all of which feature on Smith's third album, Love Goes.
As of April 2021, Smith has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Smith's achievements include four Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, and an American Music Award, as well as a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. Smith is genderqueer and uses they/them pronouns.
Love Goes is the third studio album by English singer Sam Smith. It was released on 30 October 2020 through Capitol Records. The album was originally planned to be titled To Die For and was due for release in June 2020 but was delayed amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Smith also felt it was insensitive to use the word "die" due to what many people were going through. The album won a GLAAD Media Award in the Outstanding Music Artist category in April 2021.

Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds
Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds
Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds
Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds

Have it all
Rip our memories off the wall
All the special things I bought
They mean nothing to me anymore
But to you
They were everything we were
They meant more than every word
Now I know just what you love me for (mm)

Take all the money you want from me
Hope you become what you want to be
Show me how little you care
How little you care, how little you care
You dream of glitter and gold
My heart's already been sold
Show you how little I care
How little I care, how little I care

My diamonds leave with you
You're never gonna hear my heart break
Never gonna move in dark ways
Baby, you're so cruel
My diamonds leave with you
Material love won't fool me
When you're not here I can breathe
Think I always knew
My diamonds leave with you
(Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds)

Shake it off
Shake the fear of feeling lost
Always me that pays the cost
I should never trust so easily
You lied to me, lie-lied to me
Then left with my heart 'round your chest

Take all the money you want from me
Hope you become what you want to be
Show me how little you care
How little you care, how little you care
You dream of glitter and gold
My heart's already been sold
Show you how little I care
How little I care, how little I care

My diamonds leave with you
You're never gonna hear my heart break
Never gonna move in dark ways
Baby, you're so cruel
My diamonds leave with you
Material love won't fool me
When you're not here I can breathe
Think I always knew
My diamonds leave with you

Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds (woah-oh)
Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds (woah-oh)
Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds
Always knew, my diamonds leave with you

Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds (woah-oh)
Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds (woah-oh)
Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds
Always knew
Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds

You're never gonna hear my heart break
Never gonna move in dark ways
Baby, you're so cruel
My diamonds leave with you
Material love won't fool me
When you're not here I can breathe
Think I always knew
My diamonds leave with you, oh

You're never gonna hear my heart break
Never gonna move in dark ways (oh-oh)
Baby, you're so cruel (so cruel)
My diamonds leave with you
Material love won't fool me
When you're not here I can breathe

On a cent mille choses à dire

On a toujours oublié quelque chose

On va descendre ensemble si tu veux

I swear to God, when I come home
I'm gonna hold you so close
I swear to God, when I come home, I'll never let go

Like a river, I flow to the ocean I know
You pull me close, guiding me home

And I need you to know that we're
Fallin' so fast, we're fallin' like the stars, fallin' in love

And I'm not scared to say those words
With you I'm safe, we're fallin' like the stars, we're fallin' in love

I swear to God, I can see
Four kids and no sleep
We'll have one on each knee, you and me, hmm
And when they've grown up
You're still the girl in the club
When I held your hair up, 'cause you had too much

And I need you to know that we're
Fallin' so fast, we're fallin' like the stars, fallin' in love

And I'm not scared to say those words
With you I'm safe, we're fallin' like the stars, fallin' in love

I swear to God, every day
He won't take you away
'Cause without you, babe, I lose my way

Oh, I'm in love (I'm in love)
Oh, I'm in love (I'm in love)
Oh, I'm in love (I'm in love)
Oh, I'm in love (I'm in love)
Oh, I'm in love (I'm in love)
Oh, I'm in love (fallin' like the stars)

And I need you to know that we're
Fallin' so fast, we're fallin' like the stars, fallin' in love

And I'm not scared to say those words
With you I'm safe, we're fallin' like the stars, we're fallin' in love.
