Come on along and listen to
The lullaby of Broadway
The hip hooray and ballyhoo
The lullaby of Broadway
The rumble of a subway train
The rattle of the taxis
The daffodils who entertain
At Angelo's and Maxi's

When a Broadway baby says good night
It's early in the morning
Manhattan babies don't sleep tight
Until the dawn

Good night, baby
Good night, the milkman's on his way
Sleep tight, baby
Sleep tight, let's call it a day
Hey!

The band begins to go to town
And everyone goes crazy
You rock-a-bye your baby round
'Til everything gets hazy
Hush-a-bye, I'll buy you this and that
You hear a daddy saying
And baby goes home to her flat
To sleep all day

Good night, baby
Good night, the milkman's on his way
Sleep tight, baby
Sleep tight, let's call it a day

Listen to the lullaby

Of old... Broad...way...
TURN YOUR LOVE AROUND
GEORGE BENSON
SONGWRITERS: Bill Champlin; jay graydon  & Steve Lukather
COUNTRY: U.S.A.
ALBUM: the georg benson collection
LABEL: warner bros
GENRE: soul/jazz
YEAR: 1978

"Turn Your Love Around" is a vocal pop/R&B single by George Benson. The song was written by Bill Champlin of Chicago, Steve Lukather of Toto and producer Jay Graydon to help fill out Benson's 1981 greatest hits album, The George Benson Collection. The song won a Best R&B Song Grammy Award at the 25th Grammy Awards in 1983 for Champlin, Graydon, and Lukather as its co-writers.
"Turn Your Love Around" reached number one on the soul singles charts and number five on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts in early 1982, as well as the top ten on the jazz chart. It is ranked as the 27th biggest hit of 1982. In Canada, the song spent two weeks at number 10.
The original inspiration for the song came to co-songwriter Jay Graydon in the bathroom. He explained to Songfacts: "'Turn Your Love Around' was a gift, and it's the gift that keeps giving. I was in the bathroom when I came up with the melody, and I was sitting down, if you get my drift. Well, I got off the can as fast as I could and got to a cassette machine so I wouldn't forget it. George Benson was coming in town Tuesday, so I had four days to come up with a song for The George Benson Collection. And I was gettin' nothing. And then bang! I just came up with this melody for the chorus when I was in the bathroom."
The song was one of the first pop hits to feature a Linn LM-1 drum machine, programmed by session drummer Jeff Porcaro.
You've got the love
You've got the power
But you just don't understand
Girl, you've been charging by the hour
For your love

I'm tryin' to show how much I love you
Still believe in romance
You're taking way too many chances
With my love

I remember
When you used to be
The talk of the town
All you get is lonely

Turn your love around
Don't you turn me down
I can show you how
Turn your love around

Without the woman I can make it
But I need the girl to stay
Oh, don't you let the lady take it
All away
When the woman need's
A taste of yesterday
But you stay at home
All they get is lonely

Turn your love around
Don't you turn me down
I can show you how
Turn your love around

Oh, girl you know me
I'm alone until you show me
That you're still in love with me
We're gonna make it
You're gonna take it
Back where we belong

Turn your love around
Don't you turn me down
I can show you how
Turn your love around
(Turn your love around)

Turn your love around
This time the girl became a woman
Don't you turn me down
Every woman needs a man
I can show you how
I love the girl
I love the woman
Turn your love around
(Turn your love around)

Turn your love around
This time the girl became a woman
Don't you turn me down
Every woman needs a man
I can show you how
I love the girl
I love the woman
Turn your love around
(Turn your love around)

Turn your love around
This time the girl became a woman
Don't you turn me down
Every woman needs a man
I can show you how.

I work at the Palace Ball
But gee, that palace is cheap
When I get back to my chilly hallroom
I'm much too tired to sleep
I'm one of those lady teachers
A beautiful hostess you know
The kind the palace features
At exactly a dime a throw

Ten cents a dance
That's what they pay me
Gosh how they weigh me down
Ten cents a dance
Pansys and rough guys
Tough guys who tear my gown
Seven to midnight I hear drums
Loudly the saxaphone blows
Trumpets are breaking my eardrums!
Customers crush my toes
Sometimes I think I've found my hero
But it's a queer romance
All that you need is a ticket!
Come on big boy
Ten cents a dance

Fighters and sailors and bow-legged tailors
Can pay for a ticket and rent me
Butchers and barbers and rats from the harbors
Are sweethearts my good luck has sent me
Though I've a chorus of elderly beaus
Stockings are porous with holes in the toes
I'm there till closing time
Dance and be merry, it's only a dime!

Ten cents a dance
That's what they pay me
Gosh how they weigh me down
Ten cents a dance
Pansys and rough guys
Tough guys who tear my gown
Seven to midnight I hear drums
Loudly the saxaphone blows
Trumpets are breaking my eardrums!
Customers crush my toes
Sometimes I think I've found my hero
But it's a queer romance
All that you need is a ticket!
Come on big boy
Ten cents a dance.
