Morphine was an American alternative rock group formed by Mark Sandman, Dana Colley, and Jerome Deupree in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1989. After five successful albums and extensive touring, they disbanded in 1999 after frontman Sandman died of a heart attack. Founding members have reformed into the band Vapors of Morphine, maintaining much of the original style and sound.
Morphine combined blues and jazz elements with more traditional rock arrangements, giving the band an unusual sound. Sandman sang distinctively in a "deep, laid-back croon", and his songwriting featured a prominent beat influence. The band themselves coined the label "low rock" to describe their music, which involved "a minimalist, low-end sound that could have easily become a gimmick: a "power trio" not built around the sound of na electric guitar. Instead, Morphine expanded its offbeat vocabulary on each album.
Last night I told a stranger all about you
They smiled patiently with disbelief
I always knew you would succeed no matter what you tried
And I know you did it all in spite of me
Still I'm proud to have know you for the short time that I did
Glad to have been a step up on your way
Proud to be part of your illustrious career
And I know you did it all in spite of me
In spite of me
Late last night I saw you in my living room
You seemed so close but yet so cold
For a long time I thought that you'd be coming back to me
Those kind of thoughts can be so cruel
So cruel and I know you did it all in spite of me
In spite of me.

Ooh, girl, you know like I know, uh-huh
What your lovin', girl, has done for me
Like a Mona Lisa hangin' on a wall, uh-huh

You're a lovely sight, lovely sight to see, mmm, hmm
The way you give me your sweet love
Any place and time when you look at me I get weak in my knees
I'm so thankful that you're mine

Your sweetness is my weakness, yeah
Girl, your sweetness is my weakness, yeah, yeah
Sweetness is my weakness, well
You sweetness is my weakness

They all say that I'm a fool, uh-huh
For lovin' you, for lovin' you this way
But sure as I am, I don't give a damn
About what the people, what the people say

Other girls try to imitate you
With the other boys, uh-huh
But I'm the only boy 'round here
Whose got the real macoy

Sweetness is my weakness, yeah, yeah
Sweetness is my weakness, yeah (Uh-huh), yeah (Uh-huh)
Sweetness is my weakness, yeah (Ooh), yeah (Ooh)
Sweetness is my weakness, yeah, yeah

Sweetness is my weakness.

GÊNERO: SAMBA
ANO: 1997

Cadê aquele brilho no teu olhar

Senta aqui pra gente conversar
Vem duas vidas numa só estrada
É amor e não conto de fadas
Eu nasci pra te amar.
