Libre, libre, libre

TAKE ME TO CHURCH
demi lovato; cover Hozier
SONGWRITER: Andrew hoozier-byrne
COUNTRY: ireland
ALBUM: take me to the church
LABEL: rubyworks records
GENRE: indie
YEAR: 2013
"Take
Me to Church" is a song by Irish musician Hozier. It was released on his
debut extended play(EP) and later his self-titled debut album(2014). The song was released as his
debut single on 2013 as a free download. Hozier, a
struggling musician at the time of its writing, wrote and recorded the song in
the attic of his parents' home in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland. A mid-tempo soul
song, its lyrics use religious terminology to describe a romantic relationship.
The song first caught the attention of independent label Rubyworks, where
producer Rob Kirwan overdubbed the original demo with live instruments. Only
two musicians feature on the track: Andrew Hozier-Byrne (Hozier) and drummer
Fiachra Kinder.
The music
video contributed to the song's widespread popularity. Directed by Brendan Canty and
Conal Thomson of small production company “Feel Good Lost”, it follows a
relationship between two men and the subsequent violent homophobic backlash. Upon
its YouTube release in September 2013, the video quickly began to go viral,
leading to Hozier's subsequent license with Columbia Records US and Island
Records UK.
In 2014, the song achieved widespread global popularity,
topping the charts in 12 countries and reaching the top 10 in 21 other
territories. Aided by music platforms Shazam and Spotify to become
a rock radio hit in the US, the song spent 23 consecutive weeks at the top of
the Hot Rock Songs chart, tied with Imagine Dragons "Radioactive" as
the longest-running number-one in its chart-history (at the time), later
crossing over to the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at number two
in December 2014. The song was nominated for the Grammy Award for Song of the
Year at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards and has been certified five times
platinum in the US.
On 16
April 2016, Hozier released the original Take Me To Church EP on special
edition 12-inch vinyl picture disc for Record Store Day UK, the first time the
EP was available as a physical release.
My lover's got humour
She's the giggle at a funeral
Knows everybody's disapproval
I should've worshipped her sooner
If the heavens ever did speak
She is the last true mouthpiece
Every sunday's getting more bleak
A fresh poison each week
"We were born sick"
You heard them say it
My church offers no absolutes
She tells me, "Worship in the bedroom"
The only heaven I'll be sent to
Is when I'm alone with you
I was born sick, but I love it
Command me to be well
Amen, amen, amen
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins
So you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins
So you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
If I'm a pagan of the good times
My lover's the sunlight
To keep the goddess on my side
She demands a sacrifice
To drain the whole sea get something shiny
Something meaty for the main course
That's a fine looking high horse
What you got in the stable?
We've a lot of starving faithful
That looks tasty
That looks plenty
This is hungry work
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins
So you can sharpen your knife
Offer me my deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins
So you can sharpen your knife
Offer me my deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
No masters or kings when the ritual begins
There is no sweeter innocence
Than our gentle sin
In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene
Only then I am human, only then I am clean
Amen, amen, amen
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog
At the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins
So you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
Take
me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins
So you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life.

July 1959 in London, England – 21 January 1996) and Dennis Fuller (born 19 June
1959 in Jamaica – 21 January 1996). They are best remembered for the UK Top 5
hits "Requiem" and "London Nights".
The duo

the Eastern Alps, Austria, on 21 January 1996. Ephraim's wife also died in the
accident, leaving their three-year-old son without parents and leaving Fuller's
10-year-old daughter without a father.
The
Twelve Commandments of Dance is the debut album by German-based English
dance-pop duo London Boys, released in 1989. It reached number 2 in the UK
Albums Chart and stayed on the chart for 29 weeks.
Other than the charting singles stated in the track

and "Dance Dance Dance".
It
was back in '69, like a night mare cryin'
In a hotel bed on the coast
Happy Shanghai girls
Like a pretty string of pearls
And a snow storm up in my nose
I was on my way to heaven, with a funky red 11
And a switchblade job on the side
Hear the music playin' and my heartbeat prayin'
To the airways out in the night
Ouh, radio! I love my radio! My chinese radio
Ouh,
radio! I love my radio! My chinese radio
Ouh
Oh, I could write a million stories
Tales of love and hate and pain
And my fears would truly frighten
Any ordinary man
Is there someone out there laughing!
Walking in the pouring rain,
Lord, I'm sure I know the answers
But it's too hard
To explain
Now my head is burning, an' I feel it turning
In an igloo up on the moon
Saying: Lord, have mercy on a guy from Jersey
And it falls back into my room
Just a stranded tourist
An' I wouldn't touch the purest
If I ever get out here alive
While the FM-switches and the green-light digits
Keep in touch with the world outside
Just a river on the run, now
I'm flyin' and I won't touch down
Got nowhere left to run
I get on my knees and pray!

MODERN TALKING
SONGWRITER: DIETER BOHLEN
COUNTRY: GERMANY
ALBUM: BACK FOR GOOD
LABEL: HANSA
GENRE: DANCE
YEAR: 1998
Back for
Good is the seventh album by Modern Talking, released on 30 March 1998 after
the unexpected reunion of the duo. The German duo's seventh album was released
after almost 11 years of absence. Back for Good is a collection of their
previous hits which consists of 18 tracks, including four new songs, 13
previous hits in a redone format and one medley. Some of the group's earlier hits were rehashed and
arranged differently, including "Lady Lai" and "Angie's Heart".
Back for
Good entered the number one position in Germany on 13 April 1998 and spent a
total of five weeks at the top, it eventually earned 5 gold-awards in Germany
alone for selling over 1,250,000 units. The album Back For Good spent total of
54 weeks on the German album chart.
Back for
Good was also successful outside of Germany, topping the album charts of many
other countries including Sweden, Finland, Norway, Switzerland and Austria. Back
for Good eventually went on to sell over three million copies in Europe alone.
Modern
Talking was a German duo consisting of singer Thomas Anders and arranger,
songwriter and producer Dieter Bohlen, with the participation of Luis Rodríguez
in the production. They have been referred to as Germany's most successful pop
duo, and have had a number of hit singles, reaching the top five in many
countries. Some of their most popular and widely known singles are "You're
My Heart, You're My Soul", "You Can Win If You Want", "Cheri,
Cheri Lady", "Brother Louie", "Atlantis Is Calling(S.O.S.
for Love)" and "Geronimo's Cadillac".
Modern Talking worked together
from 1984 to 1987, then the band split up. In 1998, they reunited and made a
successful comeback, recording and releasing music from 1998 to 2003. The duo
released singles which again entered the top ten in Germany and abroad. Some of
those singles were the re-recorded version of "You're My Heart, You're My
Soul '98". After the duo's second and final break-up in 2003, their global
sales had reached 120 million singles and albums combined.
In 2006,
Bohlen included a secret message in his song "Bizarre Bizarre" when
played backwards: "There will never be an end to Modern Talking". Bohlen's
response: "I meant to say that the music of Modern Talking will live
forever". Anders has kept the Modern Talking songs in his repertoire and
produced songs in a similar vein for his solo records ("Independent
Girl"). In 2006, he produced an álbum Songs Forever of swing and jazz versions
of popular songs (including Modern Talking's first hit). Bohlen has written two
autobiographical books about Modern Talking's history from his perspective. The
first book sold a million copies in Germany. The sequel was heavily criticised
for his unfairness towards the people he worked with. As a result of that,
Bohlen withdrew from the public for a year until 2006, when he said he
regretted putting out the second book. Anders had not been the only one
pressing charges against Bohlen and demanding that sections of the book be
modified. Frank Farian was also angered by Bohlen's literary output and
released a book in which he tried to expose Bohlen as a fraud. Bohlen's first
book was the basis of an animated comedy film called Dieter: Der Film. The soundtrack
of this film contains the previously unreleased Modern Talking song "Shooting
Star" which had been written for the Universe album.
Music critics were unenthusiastic
about Modern Talking and gave the band almost bad reviews because of their
music and performance. Although recognizing the
catchiness and professional production of the songs, the lack of originality
was criticized by British representatives of these genres of music, such as the
Pet Shop Boys or Erasure. In particular, it was criticized that many of their
songs would sound quite similar; a fact that Bohlen also openly admitted to Der
Spiegel in 1989:
"I do not deny that all
Modern Talking hits sound very, very similar. We have
always decoupled those tracks from our LPs as singles that sound as similar as
possible to their predecessors."
