Harry Edward Nilsson III (June 15, 1941 – January 15, 1994), known professionally as Nilsson, was an American singer-songwriter who achieved the peak of his commercial success in the early 1970s. His work is characterized by pioneering vocal overdub experiments, returns to the Great American Songbook, and fusions of Caribbean sounds. A tenor with a 3 12 octave range, Nilsson was one of the few major pop-rock recording artists to achieve significant commercial success without ever performing major public concerts or undertaking regular tours. The craft of his songs and the defiant attitude he projected remain touchstones for later generations of indie rock musicians.
Born in Brooklyn, Nilsson moved to Los Angeles as a teenager to escape his family's poor financial situation. While working as a computer programmer at a bank, he grew interested in musical composition and close-harmony singing, and was successful in having some of his songs recorded by various artists such as the Monkees. In 1967, he debuted on RCA Victor with the LP Pandemonium Shadow Show, followed by a variety of releases that include a collaboration with Randy Newman (Nilsson Sings Newman, 1970) and the original children's story The Point! (1971). His most commercially successful album, Nilsson Schmilsson (1971), produced the international top 10 singles "Without You" and "Coconut". His other top 10 hit, "Everybody's Talkin'" (1968), was featured prominently in the 1969 film Midnight Cowboy. A version of Nilsson's "One", released by Three Dog Night in 1969, also reached the U.S. top 10.
During a 1968 press conference, the Beatles were asked what their favorite American group was and answered "Nilsson". Sometimes called "the American Beatle", he soon formed close friendships with John Lennon and Ringo Starr. In the 1970s, Nilsson, Lennon and Starr were members of the Hollywood Vampires drinking club, embroiling themselves in a number of widely publicized, alcohol-fueled incidents. They produced one collaborative album, Pussy Cats (1974). After 1977, Nilsson left RCA, and his record output diminished. In response to Lennon's 1980 murder, he took a hiatus from the music industry to campaign for gun control. For the rest of his life, he recorded only sporadically. In 1994, Nilsson died of a heart attack while in the midst of recording what became his last album, Losst and Founnd (2019).
Nilsson created the first remix album (Aerial Pandemonium Ballet, 1971) and recorded the first mashup song ("You Can't Do That", 1967). He was voted No. 62 in Rolling Stone's 2015 list of the "100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time", where he was described as "a pioneer of the Los Angeles studio sound, a crucial bridge between the baroque psychedelic pop of the late Sixties and the more personal singer-songwriter era of the Seventies". The RIAA certified Nilsson Schmilsson and Son of Schmilsson (1972) as gold records, indicating over 500,000 units sold each. He earned Grammy Awards for two of his recordings; Best Contemporary Vocal Performance, Male in 1970 for "Everybody's Talkin'" and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male in 1973 for "Without You".
"Many Rivers to Cross" is a song written and recorded in 1969 by Jimmy Cliff. It has since been recorded by many musicians, including Harry Nilsson, John Lennon, Joe Cocker, Percy Sledge, Desmond Dekker, UB40, Cher, The Brand New Heavies, Eric Burdon & The Animals, The Walker Brothers, Marcia Hines, Toni Childs, Oleta Adams, Linda Ronstadt, Annie Lennox, Bryan Adams, Arthur Lee and Jimmy Barnes. It was also performed in the Caribbean by two female musicians, Alison Hinds of Barbados and Tessanne Chin of Jamaica.
Many rivers to cross
But I just can`t seem to find, my way over
Wandering, I am lost, as I travel along
The white cliffs of Dover

Many rivers to cross
And it`s only my will that keeps me alive
Well I`ve been licked, washed up for years
And I merely survived because of my pride

And this loneliness won`t leave me alone
It`s such a drag to be on your own
My woman left me and she didn't say why
Well I guess I have to try

Sweet thing
Sweet thing

And this loneliness just won`t leave me alone
You know it's such a drag to be on your own
My woman left me but she didn't say why
So I guess I have to try, try

Many (many), many (many) rivers to cross
(Many rivers to cross) But just where to begin
I`m playing for time
There have been times I found myse-elf sitting in limbo
Alone, alone, for my lifetime

Many rivers to cross
But I just can`t seem to find, my way over
Wondering, I am lost as I travel along.

MORE THAN WORDS

EXTREME
SONGWRITERS: GARY CHERONE & NUNO BETTENCOURT
COUNTRY: U. S. A.
ALBUM: EXTREME II: PORNOGRAFFITTI
LABEL: A & M RECORDS
GENRE: SOFT ROCK
YEAR: 1991

Extreme is an American rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1985, currently headed by frontman Gary Cherone and guitarist Nuno Bettencourt. The band reached the height of their popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s with original line-up Gary Cherone, Nuno Bettencourt, Paul Geary and Patrick Badger.
They have released five studio albums, two EPs (in Japan) and two compilation albums since their formation. The band was one of the most successful rock acts of the early 1990s, selling over 10 million albums worldwide. Extreme achieved their greatest success with their 1990 album Pornograffitti, which peaked at number 10 on the Billboard 200, and was certified gold in May 1991 and double platinum in October 1992. That album featured the acoustic ballad single "More Than Words", which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.
"More Than Words" is a song by rock band Extreme. It is the fifth track and third single from their 1990 album Pornograffitti. It is a ballad built around acoustic guitar work by Nuno Bettencourt and the vocals of Gary Cherone (with harmony vocals from Bettencourt). The song is a detour from the funk metal style that permeates the band's records. As such, it has often been described as "a blessing and a curse" due to its overwhelming success and recognition worldwide, but the band ultimately embraced it and plays it at every show.

Saying: I love you
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It's not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only knew
How easy it would be to show me how you feel

More than words
Is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say
That you love me
'Cause I'd already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two?
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away?
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying: I love you
More than words

Now that I've tried to talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands and touch me
Hold me close, don't ever let me go

More than words
Is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn't have to say
That you love me
'Cause I'd already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two?
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away?
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying: I love you.

ALL AROUND THE WORLD

OASIS
SONGWRITER: NOEL GALLAGHER
COUNTRY: U. K.
ALBUM: BE HERE NOW
LABEL: CREATION RECORDS
GENRE: ROCK
YEAR: 1997

Oasis were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. Developed from an earlier group, the Rain, the band originally consisted of Liam Gallagher (lead vocals, tambourine), Paul Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass guitar), and Tony McCarroll (drums). Upon returning from working as a roadie for Inspiral Carpets, Liam's older brother Noel (lead guitar, vocals) joined as a fifth member, finalising the band's core line-up. During the course of their existence, they had various line-up changes, though the Gallagher brothers remained as the staple members.
Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993 and released their record-setting debut album Definitely Maybe (1994). The following year they recorded (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) with drummer Alan White, in the midst of a chart rivalry with Britpop peers Blur. Spending ten weeks at number one on the UK Albums Chart, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? was also an international chart success, and became one of the best-selling albums of all time. In addition, it stands as the fifth best-selling album in the UK, and the biggest-selling album in the UK of the 1990s. The Gallagher brothers featured regularly in tabloid newspapers for their disputes and wild lifestyles. In 1996, Oasis performed two nights at Knebworth for an audience of 125,000 each night, the largest outdoor concerts in UK history at the time. In 1997, Oasis released their third album, Be Here Now; becoming the fastest-selling album in UK chart history. However, its popularity declined quickly.
McGuigan and Arthurs left in 1999 as Oasis released Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000). They were replaced by former Heavy Stereo guitarist Gem Archer and former Ride guitarist Andy Bell. White departed in 2004, replaced by Zak Starkey and later Chris Sharrock as touring members. Oasis released three more studio albums, Heathen Chemistry (2002), Don't Believe The Truth (2005) and Dig Out Your Soul (2008). The group abruptly disbanded after the departure of Noel in August 2009.
As of 2009, Oasis have sold over 75 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time. They are among the most successful acts on the UK Singles Chart and Albums Chart, with eight UK number-one singles and eight UK number-one albums. The band also achieved three platinum albums in the US. They won 17 NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and six Brit Awards, including one in 2007 for Outstanding Contribution to Music and one for the "Best Album of the Last 30 Years" (for (What's the Story) Morning Glory?). They were nominated for two Grammy Awards.
"All Around the World" is a song by the English rock band Oasis. It was written by the band's lead guitarist and principal songwriter Noel Gallagher. Released on 12 January 1998 as the third single from their third studio álbum Be Here Now (1997), it is the longest song ever recorded by Oasis. The song peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart and earned a Gold certification. This was the last Oasis single to be released on the Creation Records label. The song also reached number one in Ireland and peaked at number 15 on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.
"All Around the World"—nearly ten minutes long—is embellished with string and horn pieces, and is followed by the two-minute-long instrumental "All Around the World (Reprise)". Upon its release, the reviews were generally positive. As with many Oasis songs (such as "Whatever", "Acquiesce", "Live Forever") it sends the message that "everything's gonna be okay". This was their last UK single to feature rhythm guitarist Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs and bassist Paul McGuigan before they left the band in 1999.
It's a bit early in the midnight hour for me
To go through all the things that I want to be
I don't believe in everything I see
You know I'm blind, so why do you disagree?

Take me away
'Cause I just don't want to stay
And the lies you make me say
Are getting deeper every day
These are crazy days, but they make me shine
Time keeps rolling by

All around the world
You gotta spread the word
Tell 'em what you've heard
You're gonna make a better day
All around the world
You gotta spread the word
Tell 'em what you've heard
You know it's gonna be okay

What you gonna do when the walls come falling down?
You never move, you never make a sound
Where you gonna swim with the riches that you found?
You're lost at sea, well, I hope that you drown
Take me away
'Cause I just don't want to stay
And the lies you make me say
Are getting deeper every day
These are crazy days, but they make me shine
Time keeps rolling by

All around the world
You gotta spread the word
Tell 'em what you've heard
You're gonna make a better day
And all around the world
You gotta spread the word
Tell 'em what you've heard
You know it's gonna be okay

All around the world
You gotta spread the word
Tell 'em what you've heard
You're gonna make a better day
'Cause all around the world
You gotta spread the word
Tell 'em what you've heard
You know it's gonna be okay

'Cause all around the world
You gotta spread the word
Tell 'em what you've heard
You're gonna make a better day
And all around the world
You gotta spread the word
Tell 'em what you've heard
You know it's gonna be okay

It's gonna be okay
it's gonna be okay
It's gonna be okay
it's gonna be okay

All around the world
You gotta spread the word
Tell 'em what you've heard
We're gonna make a better day
'Cause all around the world
You gotta spread the word
Tell 'em what you've heard
You know it's gonna be okay

All around the world
You gotta spread the word
Tell 'em what you've heard
We're gonna make a better day
All around the world
You gotta spread the word
Tell 'em what you've heard
We know it's gonna be okay

And I know what I know
What I know, what I know
Yeah I know what I know
It's going to be okay

And I know what I know
What I know, what I know
Yeah I know what I know
It's going to be okay

And I know what I know
What I know, what I know
Yeah I know what I know
It's going to be okay

And I know what I know
What I know, what I know
Yeah I know what I know
So please don't cry and never say die
So please don't cry and never say die
So please don't cry and never say die

Laa laa laa la-la-laa, la-laa la-la-la-la-laa
Laa laa laa la-la-laa, la-laa la-la-la-la-laa
Laa laa laa la-la-laa, la-laa la-la-la-la-laa
Laa laa laa la-la-laa, la-laa la-la-la-la-laa
So please don't cry and never say die

Laa laa laa la-la-laa, la-laa la-la-la-la-laa
So please don't cry and never say die
Laa laa laa la-la-laa, la-laa la-la-la-la-laa
So please don't cry and never say die
Laa laa laa la-la-laa, la-laa la-la-la-la-laa
So please don't cry and never say die

I AM THE WALRUS

THE BEATLES
SONGWRITERS: JOHN LENNON & PAUL MCCARTNEY
COUNTRY: U. K.
ALBUM: MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR
LABEL: PARLOPHONE
GENRE: PSYCHEDELIC ROCK
YEAR: 1967

The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The group, whose best-known line-up comprised John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, are regarded as the most influential band of all time. They were integral to the development of 1960s counterculture and popular music's recognition as an art form. Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock and roll, their sound incorporated elements of classical music and traditional pop in innovative ways; the band later explored music styles ranging from ballads and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock. As pioneers in recording, songwriting and artistic presentation, the Beatles revolutionised many aspects of the music industry and were often publicised as leaders of the era's youth and sociocultural movements.
Led by primary songwriters Lennon and McCartney, the Beatles built their reputation playing clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg over three years from 1960, initially with Stuart Sutcliffe playing bass. The core trio of Lennon, McCartney and Harrison, together since 1958, went through a succession of drummers, including Pete Best, before asking Starr to join them in 1962. Manager Brian Epstein moulded them into a professional act, and producer George Martin guided and developed their recordings, greatly expanding their domestic success after their first hit, "Love Me Do", in late 1962. As their popularity grew into the intense fan frenzy dubbed "Beatlemania", the band acquired the nickname "the Fab Four", with Epstein, Martin and other members of the band's entourage sometimes given the informal title of "fifth Beatle".
By early 1964, the Beatles were international stars, leading the "British Invasion" of the United States pop market and breaking numerous sales records. They soon made their film debut with A Hard Day's Night(1964). From 1965 onwards, they produced records of greater complexity, including the albums Rubber Soul (1965), Revolver(1966) and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band(1967), and enjoyed further commercial success with The Beatles (also known as "the White Album", 1968) and Abbey Road (1969). Heralding the album era, their success elevated the album to be the dominant form of record consumption over singles; other shifts credited to the Beatles include Britain's cultural resurgence, a greater public interest in psychedelic drugs and Eastern spirituality, and advancements in electronic music, album art and music videos. In 1968, they founded Apple Corps, a multi-armed multimedia corporation that continues to oversee projects related to the band's legacy. After the group's break-up in 1970, all four members enjoyed success as solo artists. Lennon was shot and killed in 1980, and Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001. McCartney and Starr remain musically active.
The Beatles are the best-selling music act of all time, with estimated sales of 600 million units worldwide. They hold the record for most number-one albums on the UK Albums Chart, most number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and most singles sold in the UK (21.9 million). The band received seven Grammy Awards, four Brit Awards, an Academy Award (for Best Original Song Score for the 1970 film Let It Be) and fifteen Ivor Novello Awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, and all four main members were inducted individually between 1994 and 2015. In 2004 and 2011, the group topped Rolling Stone's lists of the greatest artists in history. Time magazine named them among the 20th century's 100 most important people.
"I Am the Walrus" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1967 television film Magical Mystery Tour. Written by John Lennon and credited to Lennon–McCartney, it was released as the B-side to the single "Hello, Goodbye" and on the Magical Mystery Tour EP and album. In the film, the song underscores a segment in which the band mime to the recording at a deserted airfield.
Lennon wrote the song to confound listeners who had been affording serious scholarly interpretations of the Beatles' lyrics. He was partly inspired by two LSD trips and Lewis Carroll's 1871 poem "The Walrus and the Carpenter". Compositionally, every musical letter of the alphabet is invoked and every chord is a major or a seventh. Producer George Martin arranged and added orchestral accompaniment that included violins, cellos, horns, and clarinet. The Mike Sammes Singers, a 16-voice choir of professional studio vocalists, also joined the recording, variously singing nonsense lines and shrill whooping noises.
Since the "Hello, Goodbye" single and the Magical Mystery Tour EP both reached the top two slots on the British singles chart in December, "I Am the Walrus" holds the distinction of reaching numbers one and two simultaneously. Shortly after release, the song was banned by the BBC for the line "Boy, you've been a naughty girl, you let your knickers down".
I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together
See how they run like pigs from a gun
See how they fly!
I'm crying!

Sitting on a cornflake
Waiting for the van to come
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday
Man, you've been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long

I am the egg man!
They are the egg men!
I am the walrus!
Goo goo goo joob!

Mister City policeman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row
See how they fly like Lucy in the sky!
See how they run!
I'm crying! I'm crying!
I'm crying! I'm crying!

Yellow matter custard
Dripping from a dead dog's eye
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess
Boy, you've been a naughty girl, you let your knickers down

I am the egg man!
They are the egg men!
I am the walrus!
Goo goo goo joob!

Sitting in an English garden waiting for the Sun
If the Sun don't come, you get a tan
From standing in the English rain

I am the egg man (now good sir, what are you?)
They are the egg men (a poor man, made tame to fortune's blows)
I am the walrus
Goo goo goo joob! (Good pity!)

Expert, textpert, choking smokers
Don't you think the joker laughs at you?
See how they smile like pigs in a sty
See how they snide
I'm crying

Semolina Pilchard
Climbing up the Eiffel Tower
Elementary penguin singing Hare Krishna
Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe

I am the egg man!
They are the egg men!
I am the walrus!
Goo goo goo joob!
Goo goo goo goo joob!
Goo goo goo job
Goo goo goo goo job
Goo goo!
Joob! Joob! Joob!
Joob! Joob! Joob!
