You touched my life
With your softness in the night
My wish was your command
Until you ran out of love
I tell myself I'm
free
Got the chance of livin' just for me
No need to hurry home
Now that you're gone
CHORUS:
Knife
Cuts like a knife
How will I ever heal
I'm so deeply wounded
Knife
Cuts like a knife
You cut away the heart of my life
When I pretend
Wear a smile to fool my dearest friends
I wonder if they know
It's just a show
I'm on a stage
Day and night I go through my charades
But how can I disguise
What's in my eyes
CHORUS
Oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh…
I've tried and tried
Blocking out the pain I feel inside
The pain of wanting you
Wanting you
Knife
Cuts like a knife
How will I ever heal
I'm so deeply wounded
[2X]
You cut away the
heart
Of my life.

Miles Dewey
Davis III(May 26, 1926– September 28, 1991) was an American trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. He is among the most influential and acclaimed
figures in the history of jazzand 20th-century music. Davis
adopted a variety of musical directions in a five-decade career that kept him
at the forefront of many major stylistic developments in jazz.
Born in Alton, Illinois,
and raised in East St. Louis, Davis left to study at Juilliardin New York City, before dropping out and making his
professional debut as a member of saxophonistCharlie Parker's bebopquintet from 1944 to 1948. Shortly after, he recorded the Birth of the Coolsessions for Capitol Records, which were instrumental to the development of cool jazz. In the early 1950s, Miles Davis recorded some
of the earliest hard bopmusic while on Prestige Recordsbut did so haphazardly due to a heroinaddiction. After a widely acclaimed comeback performance at
the Newport
Jazz Festivalin
1955, he signed a long-term contract with Columbia Recordsand recorded the 1957 album 'Round
About Midnight.
It was his first work with saxophonist John Coltraneand bassist Paul Chambers, key members of the sextet he led into the
early 1960s. During this period, he alternated between orchestral jazz
collaborations with arranger Gil Evans, such as the Spanish music-influenced Sketches of Spain(1960), and band recordings, such as Milestones(1958) and Kind of Blue(1959). The latter recording remains one of the
most popular jazz albums of all time, having sold over five million copies in
the U.S.
"All
Blues" is a jazz composition by Miles Davisfirst appearing on the influential
1959 album Kind of Blue. It is a twelve-bar bluesin 6/8; the chord sequence is that
of a basic blues and made up entirely of seventh chords, with a ♭VI in the turnaroundinstead of just the usual V chord. In
the composition's original key of G this chord is an E♭7.
"All Blues"
is an example of modal blues in G mixolydian.
A
particularly distinctive feature of the piece is the bass line that repeats
through the whole piece, except when a V or ♭VI chord is reached (the 9th and 10th bars of a
chorus). Further, there is a harmonically similar vamp that is
played by the horns (the two saxophones in the case of Kind of Blue) at
the beginning and then (usually) continued by the piano under any solos that
take place. Each chorus is usually separated by a four-bar vamp which acts as
an introduction to the next solo/chorus.
While
originally an instrumental piece, lyrics were later added by Oscar Brown Jr.

When the world is filled
with thunder
And the winds are storming above
Deep within the night we wonder
If we've lost the magic of love
But there's something inside us
That looks to the sun
We dream that this light will guide us
With love for everyone
When the birds of war are flying
And the clouds are heavy with rain
Seems as though the skies are crying
And we feel the cold tears of pain
But there's something inside us
That looks to the sun
We dream that this
light will guide us
With love for everyone
Love is there for us, everywhere for us
(In the sound of praying, little children playing)
Open your heart
Love to each of us, here in each of us
(Constant as the moon glows, or the way the grass grows)
