Young the Giant is an American rock band that formed in Irvine, California, in 2004. The band's line-up consists of Sameer Gadhia (lead vocals), Jacob Tilley (guitar), Eric Cannata (guitar), Payam Doostzadeh (bass guitar), and Francois Comtois (drums). Formerly known as The Jakes, Young the Giant was signed by Roadrunner Records in 2009, and they released their eponymous debut album in 2010. The band's first three singles, "My Body", "Cough Syrup", and "Apartment", all charted on the US Alternative Songs chart.
Mind over Matter is the second studio album by the American alternative rock band Young the Giant. It was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen and released on January 21, 2014, by Fueled by Ramen. Promoted by the singles "It's About Time" and "Crystallized", the album received generally favorable reviews from music critics.
Mind over Matter received generally favorable reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 67, based on 7 reviews, indicating "generally favorable" reviews.
Rating the album three stars out of five, Timothy Monger of AllMusic called the album "an able, straightforward modern indie rock record" and wrote that the band was at its best on some of the lighter songs on the album, such as "Firelight" and "Waves". However, he noted that "the type of mainstream guitar/synth rock Young the Giant pursue is littered with similar acts, making it tough to rise above the din. Comparisons to stadium-filling bands like Coldplay and Phoenix are not out of line, but there is a general lack of distinction to much of the music on Mind over Matter, suggesting that the band still hasn't discovered its defining characteristics.
Mind over matter
Does it matter to any of us?
Don't change the subject
I'm heavy on your love

I missed that train
New York City, it rains
Fly to East LA in big jet planes
You know you're on my mind

And if the world don't break
I'll be shaking it
'Cause I'm a young man after all, ooh
And when the seasons change
Will you stand by me?
'Cause I'm a young man built to fall, ooh

Mind over matter
I'm in tatters thinking about her
Taste my disaster
It's heavy on my tongue

All the lights aglow, Tokyo snows
Go to watch the show, curtain's closed
I'm watching you this time

And if the world don't break
I'll be shaking it
'Cause I'm a young man after all, ooh
And when the seasons change
Will you stand by me?
'Cause I'm a young man built to fall, ooh

(I missed that train) New York City, it rains
(Fly to East LA) in big jet planes
You know you're on my mind
(All the lights aglow) Tokyo snows
(Go to watch the show) curtain's closed
I'm watching you this time

Mind over matter
Mind over matter
You know you're on my mind!

And if the world don't break
I'll be shaking it
'Cause I'm a young man after all, ooh
(I missed that train) and when the seasons change
Will you stand by me? (Fly to East LA)
'Cause I'm a young man built to fall, ooh

And if the world don't break (all the lights aglow, Tokyo snows)
(Go to watch the show, curtain's closed)
And when the seasons change
Will you stand by me?
'Cause I'm a young man built to fall, ooh!

Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson(born 18 March 1986), known as Lykke Li (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈlʏ̂kːɛ ˈliː]), is a Swedish singer, songwriter and model. Her music often blends elements of indie pop, dream pop and electronic. Her debut studio album, Youth Novels, was released in 2008, and has been followed by Wounded Rhymes(2011), I Never Learn(2014), and So Sad So Sexy(2018).
Terrence Malick’s latest film Song to Song is centered on Austin, Texas’ music scene and features a whole bunch of musicians, including Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, John Lydon, and others. In a new clip from the movie, Lykke Li and Ryan Gosling play ex-lovers and duet on Bob Marley and the Wailers’ “It Hurts to Be Alone.” Gosling plays the song on a Casio keyboard. Watch it go down below via Billboard. According to the credits, their version of the Bob Marley song was produced by Radiohead collaborator Nigel Godrich.
Song to Song is about two couples (Rooney Mara, Ryan Gosling, Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender) who “chase success through a rock‘n’roll landscape of seduction and betrayal,” according to the film's description. The movie premiered last week at SXSW and hits theaters in New York and Los Angeles on March 17. A previously released clip shows Patti Smith giving advice to Rooney Mara

After he breaks your heart
Then you'll be sad
And your teardrops start
Then you'll know how
It hurts to be alone

Just because you think that you're so smart
Going around breaking lover's hearts
Now you're defeated
By your own weapon

After he breaks your heart
Then you'll be sad
And your teardrops start
Then you'll know now
It hurts to be alone.

They say there is a war
Between the man and the woman (ah, ah)
I've never felt like this before
My heart knew that I couldn't (ah)

And then you take me in
And everything in me begins to feel like I belong
Like everybody needs a home
And when I take your hand
Like the world has never held a man
I know I cannot heal the hurt
But I will hold you here forever
If I can, if I can

And then I learned the truth
How everything good in life seems to lead back to you
And every single time I run into your arms
I feel like I exist for love
Like I exist for love
Only for love

I can't imagine how it is
To be forbidden from loving (ah, ah)
'Cause when you walked into my life
I could feel my life begin

Like I was torn apart the minute I was only born
And you're the other half
The only thing that makes me whole
I know it sounds like a lot
But you really need to know
We are leaning out for love
And we will lean for love forever, I know
I love you so

And then I learned the truth
How everything good in life seems to lead back to you
And every single time I run into your arms
I feel like I exist for love
Only for love
And when you say my name
Like white horses on the waves
I think it feels the same
As an ocean in my veins
And you'll be diving in
Like nothing is out of place
And we exist for love
Only for love

And I love you, I love you, I love you
And I love you, I love you, I love you.
