Mariah Carey(/məˈraɪə/; born March 27, 1969) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. Referred to as the "Songbird Supreme" and the "Queen of Christmas", she is noted for her five-octave vocal range, melismatic singing style, and signature use of the whistle register. Carey rose to fame in 1990 with her eponymous debut album. She was the first artist to have her first five singles reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100, from "Vision of Love" to "Emotions".
Carey's debut album was released under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, whom she married three years later. Carey achieved worldwide success with the albums Music Box(1993), Merry Christmas (1994), and Daydream(1995), with singles including "Hero", "Without You", "All I Want for Christmas Is You", "Fantasy", "Always Be My Baby", and "One Sweet Day", which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 decade-end chart (1990s). After separating from Mottola, Carey adopted a new image and incorporated more elements of hip hop with Butterfly(1997). Billboard named her the Artist of the 1990s Decade, while the World Music Awards honored her as the bestselling female pop artist of the millennium.
The Emancipation of Mimi is the tenth studio album by American singer Mariah Carey, released through Island Records on April 12, 2005. The album was considered Carey's "comeback album" by critics and became her highest-selling release in the US in a decade. In composing the album, Carey collaborated with many songwriters and producers throughout 2004, including Jermaine Dupri, Snoop Dogg, Twista, Nelly, Pharrell Williams, and James "Big Jim" Wright, many of whom appeared as featured guests on select tracks.
Carey opted to use her personal nickname 'Mimi' in the title, revealing a more intimate side of the singer, as seen in the album's declarative theme of emancipation from her personal and commercial setbacks. The Emancipation of Mimi garnered critical acclaim, with praise towards its production, Carey's vocal performance, with critics noting the theme of independence and lack of restraint, dubbing the album a "party" record. Although it has similar vocal production to her previous works and an inclination towards her signature ballads, the album encompasses dance-oriented and uptempo styles in keeping with its celebratory motif. The album garnered eight nominations at the 48th Grammy Awards, including for Album of the Year, and won three awards, including Best Contemporary R&B Album. It became Carey's first album since Butterfly(1997) to debut at number one on the US Billboard 200, selling over 404,000 copies in its first week and becoming the country's best-selling album of 2005. Internationally, it topped the charts in Greece, and reached the top-five in Canada, Denmark, France, and Japan, and was the world's second best-selling album of the year. The Emancipation of Mimi has sold over 10 million copies worldwide making it one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century.
"It's Like That" became one of her highest-charting songs in years, reaching the top twenty in several countries. "We Belong Together" accumulated 14 weeks at number one in the US, and was later hailed "song of the decade" by Billboard. It reached number one in Australia, number two in the United Kingdom and New Zealand, and achieved top-five positions in several European countries. To promote the album, Carey embarked on her sixth concert tour, entitled The Adventures of Mimi, starting on July 22, 2006, and ending on October 28, 2006.
Ooh, ooh
Oh, oh, ooh
Oh, oh, sweet love, yeah

I didn't mean it when I said I didn't love you so
I shoulda held on tight, I never shoulda let you go
I didn't know nothing, I was stupid, I was foolish
I was lying to myself
I could not fathom that I would ever be without your love
Never imagined I'd be sitting here beside myself
'Cause I didn't know you, 'cause I didn't know me
But I thought I knew everything
I never felt

The feeling that I'm feeling
Now that I don't hear your voice
Or have your touch and kiss your lips
'Cause I don't have a choice
Oh, what I wouldn't give to have you lying by my side
Right here, 'cause, baby (we belong together)

When you left I lost a part of me (together)
It's still so hard to believe (come back, come back)
Come back, baby, please (come back, come back)
'Cause we belong together

Who else am I gon' lean on when times get rough?
Who's gonna talk to me on the phone 'til the sun comes up?
Who's gonna take your place? There ain't nobody better
Oh, baby, baby, we belong together

I can't sleep at night
When you are on my mind
Bobby Womack's on the radio
Singin' to me "If you think you're lonely now"
Wait a minute, this is too deep (too deep)
I gotta change the station
So I turn the dial, trying to catch a break
And then I hear Babyface
I only think of you
And it's breaking my heart
I'm trying to keep it together
But I'm falling apart
I'm feeling all out of my element
I'm throwing things, cryin'
Tryin' to figure out where the hell I went wrong
The pain reflected in this song
Ain't even half of what I'm feeling inside
I need you, need you back in my life
Baby (my life, my life)

When you left I lost a part of me (together)
It's still so hard to believe (come back, come back)
Come back, baby, please (come back, come back)
'Cause we belong together

Who else am I gon' lean on when times get rough?
Who's gonna talk to me on the phone 'til the sun comes up?
Who's gonna take your place? There ain't nobody better
Oh, baby, baby, we belong together
Baby
When you left I lost a part of me (together)
It's still so hard to believe (come back, come back)
Come back, baby, please (come back, come back)
'Cause we belong together

Who am I gon' lean on when times get rough?
Who's gon' talk to me 'til the sun comes up?
Who's gon' take your place? There ain't nobody better

Oh, baby, baby, we belong together
We belong together.

Rien, rien, rien
Rien ne vaut la vie
Rien, rien, rien
Rien ne vaut la vie.

DARYLL HALL

ALBUM: ROCK’N SOUL PART 1
LABEL: RCA RECORDS
GENRE: POP ROCK
YEAR: 1983

Daryl Hall and John Oates(commonly known as Hall & Oates) are an American pop rock duo formed in Philadelphia in 1970. Daryl Hall is generally the lead vocalist; John Oates primarily plays electric guitar and provides backing vocals. The two write most of the songs they perform, separately or in collaboration. They achieved their greatest fame from the mid-1970s to the late-1980s with a fusion of rock and roll and rhythm and blues.
Though they are commonly referred to as Hall & Oates, Hall has been adamant about the duo being called Daryl Hall & John Oates- its official name. They have been credited on albums as Daryl Hall & John Oates(or Daryl Hall John Oates) on all of their US releases. The duo reached the US Top 40 with 29 of their 33 singles charting on Billboard's Hot 100 between 1974 and 1991. Six of these peaked at number one: "Rich Girl" (1977), "Kiss on My List" (1980), the two 1981 releases "Private Eyes", and "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" (also a Hot Soul Nº 1), "Maneater"(1982) and "Out of Touch"(1984). Their overall 16 US Top Tens also include "She's Gone", "Sara Smile", "You Make My Dreams", "Family Man", "Say It Isn't So", and "Method of Modern Love". Seven of their albums have been RIAA-certified platinum and six of them gold. In the United Kingdom, they have achieved success with two Top Ten albums and six Top 40 singles, two of which – "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" and "Maneater" – reached the Top Ten. The duo have spent 120 weeks in the UK Top 75 albums chart and 84 weeks in the UK Top 75 singles chart.
Rock 'n Soul Part 1 (also titled Greatest Hits – Rock 'n Soul Part 1) is a greatest hits album by American musical duo Hall & Oates, credited as "Daryl Hall John Oates" on the album cover. Released by RCA Records on October 18, 1983, the album featured mostly hit singles recorded by the duo and released by RCA, along with one single from the duo's period with Atlantic Records and two previously unreleased songs recorded earlier in the year: "Say It Isn't So" and "Adult Education".
The album was originally released on LP and cassette, with sides labeled "Side One" and "Side A". In 2006, the album was re-released on CD by RCA and Legacy Recordings with two bonus tracks. On October 16, 2015, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab released the album on SACD but it doesn't include the bonus tracks of the 2006 CD.
The duo paired with HBO for a concert special; it became their first for pay TV; they performed a show at the Montreal Forum in Quebec, Canada on March 10 and 11, 1983; the performance was filmed and released as a VHS called: Rock 'n Soul Live; the video was certified Gold by the RIAA on July 15, 1986, denoting shipments of 50,000. The concert premiered on HBO on March 20, 1983; it features selections from the duo's album H2O; it was directed by Mike Mansfield and produced by Danny O'Donovan.
This compilation mostly features single versions of the songs.
I'm tired of playing on the team
It seems I don't get time out anymore
What a change if we set the pace face to face
No one even trying to score oh

Oh oh I can feel the magic of your touch
And when you move in close a little bit means so much
Ooh yeah, you've got to understand baby
Time out is what I'm here for

One on one I want to play that game tonight
One on one I know I want to play that
One on one I want to play that game tonight
One on one so slow

You can't tell me you don't miss me girl
I think I might know you too well
Wonder what you'd say if you knew that I was coming tonight
(Want to) I want you can't you tell

One on one I want to play that game tonight
One on one I know I want to play that
One on one I want to play that game tonight
One on one so slow

That's all you need to know now
'Cause if it's really right there's nothing else
One on one I want to play that game tonight
One on one I want to play that game tonight
One on one I want to play that game tonight
One on one I want to play that game tonight

One on one, girl
There's nothing else but you and me
I don't want no one else
I don't want no one else
Baby I am tired of playing
I am tired of playing
I don't want to play those games no more, no more
I want to play with you girl
I want to play with you girl
Just you and me
You and me
You and me.
