Ezekiel Christopher Montanez, aka Chris Montez, hit the
Top Five in 1962 with "Let's Dance," a proto-garage rock song which
could segue nicely with the Surfaris' "Wipe Out" or the Champs'
"Tequila." Four years later, he's pictured with Herb Alpert on the back
cover of this album of pretty much standards which yielded three Top 40 hits.
Within a few months of
"Call Me" hitting the Top 25 in February of 1966 rocker turned
semi-cabaret artist Chris Montez made a splash when "The More I See
You", A & M single #796, made its ascent up the Hot 100. Written by
the great Harry Warren and Mack Gordon this particular composition is two
minutes and forty-five seconds of cocktail lounge/jazz/rock produced by Herb
Alpert and Tommy Lipuma, finding even more chart success than its predecessor
going Top 20 in May of 1966.
The more I see you,
The more I want you
Somehow this feeling
just grows and grows
With every sigh
I become more mad about you
More lost without you
and so it goes
Can you imagine
how much I love you?
The more I see you
as years go by
I know the only one for me
can only be you
My arms won't free you,
and my heart won't try
Chris Montez
