The Righteous Brothers were the musical duo of Bobby Hatfield and Bill
Medley. They recorded from 1963 through 1975 and continued to perform until
Hatfield's death in 2003. Their emotive vocal stylings were sometimes dubbed
"blue-eyed soul"
Hatfield and Medley both possessed exceptional vocal talent, with range,
control and tone that helped them create a strong and distinctive duet sound
and also to perform as soloists. Medley sang the low parts with his deep,
soulful baritone, with Hatfield taking the higher register vocals with his
soaring countertenor.
"Unchained Melody" is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and
lyrics by Hy Zaret. North used the music as a theme for the little-known prison
film Unchained, hence the name. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film
soundtrack. It has since become one of the most recorded
songs of the 20th century, by some estimates having spawned over 500 versions
in hundreds of different languages.
Oh my love, my darling
I've hungered
for your touch
A long lonely time
Time goes by so slowly
and time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me
Lonely rivers flow to the sea
To the sea
To the open arms of the sea
yeah
Lonely rivers sigh "Wait for me"
Wait for me
I'll be coming home
Wait for me
Oh my love, my darling
I've hungered,
Hungered for your touch
A long lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine
I need your love, I,
I need your love
God speed your love to me
