Aurora
Aksnes (born 15 June 1996), known mononymously as AURORA (stylised in all caps), is a Norwegian singer, songwriter, and record
producer. Born in Stavanger, Aurora released her debut extended play, Running with the Wolves, in 2015, through Decca Records. Later that year, she provided the backing
track for the John Lewis Christmas advert, singing a cover of the Oasis song "Half
the World Away".
Aurora released her debut studio album, All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend, in 2016. In 2018, she released her second
extended play, Infections of a Different Kind (Step 1), followed by her second studio album, A Different Kind of Human (Step 2).
"Runaway"
is the lead single and the first track by Norwegian singer Aurora on her EP Running with the Wolves and on the album All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend. It was written by Aurora and Magnus Skylstad and produced by Odd Martin Skålnes
and Skylstad. The song was released on 7 February 2015.
The demo of the song was leaked in late 2015.
Early 2021,
"Runaway" went viral on social media platform TikTok, resulting in new
chart successes and streams on various platforms.
Aurora wrote the song between the ages of 11
and 12. It is a song about escape and "realizing you want to get home
again". In an interview with The 405 she said: "It's strange how
this song fits my life better now that I could ever imagine when I wrote the
song itself. It's about how important it is to have a soft
place to fall".
I was listenin' to the ocean
I saw a face in the sand
But when I picked it up
Then it vanished away from my hands, down
I had a dream I was
seven
Climbing my way in a tree
I saw a piece of heaven
Waiting impatient for me, down
And I was runnin' far away
Would I run off the world someday?
Nobody knows
Nobody knows, and
I was dancing in the rain
I felt alive, and I can't complain
But now take me home
Take me home where I belong
I can't take it anymore
I was painting a picture
The picture was a painting of you and
For a moment I thought you were here
But then again, it wasn't true, down
And all this time I
have been lyin'
Oh, lyin' in secret to myself
I've been putting sorrow on the
Farthest place on my shelf
La-di-da
And I was runnin' far Away
Would I run off the world…
