Doris Mary Ann von Kappelhoff, conhecida como Doris Day (Cincinnati, 3 de abril de 1922), é uma cantora e atriz americana das mais populares nas décadas de 1950 e 1960. Como atriz e cantora brilhou em Ardida como Pimenta (BR) (em inglês Calamity Jane), no qual além de interpretar a personagem do Velho Oeste Jane Calamidade cantou Secret Love (que recebeu um Oscar de melhor canção).

Outro sucesso foi Que será, será, tema de O Homem que sabia demais (BR) com James Stewart. Mas no filme Ama-me ou Esquece-me, que fez com James Cagney em 1955, teve a oportunidade de cantar um extenso rol de canções românticas, ao interpretar uma cantora da vida real. Nos anos 60 faria sucesso em comédias românticas co-estreladas por Rock Hudson.

Seu papel mais frequente era a da sexy ingênua, que vivia assediada por homens que usavam de várias artimanhas para conquistá-la. Esse tipo levou Groucho Marx a proferir uma de suas mais célebres frases: "Conheci Doris Day quando ela ainda não era virgem".

"Secret Love" is a song composed by Sammy Fain (music) and Paul Francis Webster (lyrics) for Calamity Jane, a 1953 musical film in which it was introduced by Doris Day in the title role. Ranked as a #1 hit for Day on both the Billboard and Cash Box, the song also afforded Day a #1 hit in the United States. "Secret Love" has subsequently been recorded by a wide range of artists, becoming a C&W hit firstly for Slim Whitman and later for Freddy Fender, with the song also becoming an R&B hit for Billy Stewart, whose version also reached the Top 40 as did Freddy Fender's. In the U.K., "Secret Love" would become the career record of Kathy Kirby via her 1963 remake of the song. The melody is based on the opening theme of Schubert's A-major piano sonata, D.664.
